Okay, so I would pick Age of Empires 3 because AoM is technically not an Age of Empires game and AoEO is not retro and kinda dead.
I sure love the first game more though, just for the OST and charming artstyle. Such a shame that DE fucked all of it up.

AoM, though if that doesn't count-I hold some regards for the era in AoE1, even if it's not up to AoE2 in some aspects, reaching the late era with hoplites is aesthetic. This leaves aoe3 for last. I only barely remember it exists.

wut? Just say you like the graphics. It's in no way as comprehensive as aoe2. They're all worlds apart, none of you are in any way entitled to say its convert-indie gimmicks hold objective superiority over the others, or that the others have nostalgia only. At best I'd say it's not comparable. Again, the graphics cloud your mind. And for >9825167's information the EXPANSION of aoe2 has jaguar warriors and cannons too.

I've tried to play through AoE2 multiple times throughout my life and I always lose interest. Other than AoM, AoE3 is the only one I've beaten.
Feel free to call me a milennial, cause I am. I've always felt embarassed of how impenetrable strategy games are for me. (I also got wrecked by Starcraft every time I tried to beat it)
