how is this better than playing an mp3 in vlc

the script is specifically used to extract FLAC files from CD-based games that use CD audio. it also auto-generates new CUE sheets for all supported audio formats.

this process is multiple steps and tedious to do manually, hence the script.

simple as:
cuebin_extract.sh game.cue -flac

10 seconds later it's done.

>extract FLAC files from CD-based games that use CD audio.
Whatever that's supposed to mean. You only extract CD audio from CD audio There's no FLAC there. You convert or containerize the CD audio data after that. The way you describe it the entire concept is unbelievably retarded. You could simply play the original CD audio data directly from the bin files. I really hope you have a legit need for doing it the way you do that you're keeping a secret.

the way it works is it splits the BIN into its separate tracks, so it's 1 file per track. it then encodes the audio tracks first to WAV, and then to FLAC or Ogg Vorbis.

the link is right in the center. look closely

the original use case was to make DOS games smaller, if they have a disc image that contains audio tracks. DOSBox can mount a CUE sheet that contains FLAC or Ogg using 'imgmount'.

the 2020s. a civilized era where everyone has realized FLAC is actually the best way to store music, and no one listens to mp3 files anymore ever.
