I've been having a blast with my PCE lately, thanks to that anon who keeps shilling Sapphire that's one awesome shooter

I've also been playing Gradius 2, Legendary Axe, Dragon's Curse, and lots more. What do you think of the Turbo Grafx/PC Engine?

I don't recall exactly, but it's enough for me to have the games cover art burned into my head.

I have an older friend who started a brick and mortar store in 1994 and I asked him once what he remembered about the Turbografx-16. He told me that one of his favorites on the system was Galaga 90. Of all the different versions to play out there, he claimed that was the best.

>>9802659
He’s completely right. This game kicks ass. It’s got the usual Galaga gameplay but also has scrolling stages and boss fights. You also have the option to choose different routes, kind of like in Darius. It’s a great game. It’s called Galaga ‘89 on the PC Engine.

I'm planning on getting one of those Turbo Everdrive Pros one they get restocked. I'm interested in trying all the SHUMPs as they look cool.

>Legendary Axe
This was an awesome game to have had when the PCE/TGFX16 was first released.

I dig Devil’s Crush (HuCard) but it’s the only good pinball game (including the Genesis/Megadrive variants) ever. Some people may hate it for strange reasons though.

That one weird game with the blowtorch and birds shitting on you is fun too but sprites are changed for the US version of Kato & Ken (HuCard).

Another good not-so-much mentioned space shooter is “Download 2” for the CDROM system. It’s colorful, challenging, multi-weaponed, depicts smoking, and has papa Hitler. You can tell when they really put some effort and imagination into these games.

Rayxanber III (CDROM) is also good and another space shooter.

I've been thinking of getting a PCE. What CD model is best?

Is there a list of recommended games (preferably with in-game screenshots) for this thing?
idk if they're Japanese as long as the game can be figured out its own.

PCE/Turbo Grafx is I think asides perhaps the Jag is the only retro game library I'm completely and utterly unfamiliar with. Only game I've played for it is Rondo of Blood.

1941 is cool but its supergrafx only. same with games like GnG and aldynes. there are now options to play supergrafx games on pc engine consoles, but they require expensive flash devices and you can't use the authentic carts

1943 kai is an accurate port and also includes a new set of original levels that blows the original game out of the water. naxat did a great job with their pce ports

>>9804125
download 2 unfortunately isnt as good as the first game but yeah its still worth checking out

a bit incomplete but a good start
>http://www.pcengine.co.uk/
great catalog site, well organized. also has "buy it, try it, avoid" ratings for most of the games

pce had weaker 3rd party but still a ton of games. Hudson, NEC and Naxat all brought over a lot of 3rd party ports. publishers like irem, namco, taito, masaya also had a large presence on the console, so you'll find plenty of good games from them if youre a fan. theres a small but good mix of konami, capcom, compile and falcom as well

Thanks anon, I'll check it out! Built a mister recently and it having PCE/CD support made me want to check out some more of its library.

I love it, especially how small they are. I'm Considering selling my duo and buying a core grafx with the new krikkz cart that supports CD games sometime soon. Been enjoying sapphire also anon!

Can the TG16 mini be hacked like the other mini consoels? I missed out on it, and it's now $400. I didn't even know it was a thing until a week ago. Feels bad. I really want to play those games.

It's already out, only downside is cd audio is mono only but whatever. Little expensive but it's the usual tradeoff for a single big purchase or a library of unobtanium.

Damnit. The mini has a solid collection though. From my limited knowledge of the library it's missing these titles that I want to play...

Fun little action platformer, a little demanding too on the action side of things, good feel with alice having some turn around time and the charge up of the attack. Cute stuff.

You should try Kaze Kiri Ninja Action, overlooked short and sweet action game, that one's nice
Valis I to IV are cool too, but be careful with II, it has a strong kusoge feel
Ys IV has already been recommended itt, but you should start with Ys Books I and II imo
