Man these all look ugly as shit, what do you guys think about these kinds of labels? Does a game being a greatest hits print affect your game collection at all?

>> No.9797939

I had a few greatest hits PS1 games as a kid so I don't have a negative association with them.

>> No.9797956

>>9797930
What's the actual reason for doing this? Why not simply make a reprint? Why not make the label less obnoxious? What was the purpose of desecrating the original artwork or making it 10x smaller than the original, if the actual game contents are exactly the same?

>> No.9797958

I remember the platinum stuff for ps2 and yes, i disliked it back then as i do it now. Not only the cover was worse but the game cd/dvd looked like some cheap copy you could buy from some scammer for 2 bucks. I think that was when i realized companies dont give a shit about customers and how the whole console wars thing was retarded.

Not always the case. Silent Hill 2 Greatest Hits has the added content from the Xbox/PC release that wasn't in the black label PS2 version. Pretty sure there are some other Greatest Hits releases that, if not include bonus content, then at least include bugfixes and shit.

>> No.9798701

Can't speak for every console's rerelease format, but PS1 Greatest Hits were actually manufactured cheaper with black and white manuals and disks so they could be sold even cheaper. GH games were what, like 20$ as a rule? Making them a different color is actually pretty important to differentiate them.

That said I hate PS1 GH black and white discs and they're the sole reason why I only collect Black Label PS1. The green on the shelf doesn't bother me it's the soulless discs.

Gold Nintendo>green Sony>red Sony>platinum Microsoft>yellow Nintendo>(non vr) Nintendo selects

The SNES, Gameboy and N64 player's choice just add a tasteful little ribbon, it looks nice even.

The PS1 greatest hits is obnoxious and terrible, but green is my favorite colour, so I've got a soft spot for them.

PS2 and later greatest hits start eating into the boxart and aren't a nice colour

Platinum hits are gaudy and terrible

GameCube and GBA greatest hits look like store brand videogames (pic related)

Nintendo selects are an awful colour, shrink the entire label and have an ugly logo

>> No.9799327

Value Series was released after Platinum? I saw one of these for Tekken the other day and I was wondering ehat the ranking was for it. I assume lesser copies for Value Series would be produced, no (probably pretty close to break-even costs at that point)? Final Fantasy VII never got one, for example.

>> No.9799361

>>9799327
Yes, it was released in late 2000, at the end of the year or early 2001 in whole Europe.

>> No.9799370

The green logo is definitely an eyesore, but what bothers me most is how they cheaped out on the disc art and manuals for the Greatest Hits releases. I get why they did it, but I don't have any in my library for that reason.
Aside from that, I generally try to avoid reissues regardless of the console or region because that typically means that there's more junk getting in the way of the boxart. The worst is when a reissue just has the same boxart but smaller and in a frame.

>> No.9799423

>>9797930
You get ten or so games with those labels and place them on your shelf after games on the same console without those and they at least fit together.

Some real shit is randomly different colored cases. My Wii collection is a sea of uniform white, non-players choice cases... until you spot NSMB Wii in the middle of it sticking out like a sore thumb because Nintendo decided its case should be red. Then they did the same on Wii U. A sea of blue until NSMB U + Luigi U and its red ass case.

And don't get me started on games which exclusively launch in/only ever come with the meme which is steelbook cases.
