>You will never hold a glistening new high gloss big box, heavy with the weight of a 100 page manual, map and CD jewel case in your hands at best buy ever again while your dad is on the other side of the store looking for god knows what

Make your own, use old cereal boxes and print out the 3d papercraft. It’s fun, something with your hands, let’s you use something you were gonna toss anyways. There’s websites with scans of PC big boxes and regular pc games, console games, etc. Better than funko pops at least

i kept all my boxes and I was a freak about storing them safely so they are all in great condition except for a couple of my big box PC games. my brother was telling me the other day that he remembers our mom trying to get me to throw them away several times. Thank god I didn't.

Not him but I have seen them before.

I haven't used the one linked above and I've seen better versions of these boxes/cases on other sites but this can give you an idea of what's out there.

What do you mean. How do you print a gloss image on these.

Use a permanent market and go over the cardboard first, this keeps it from shining through. Then print and cut and put it over the cardboard. Recommend a proper cutting board and exacto knife or other cutting tool to make things look good, there are videos on YouTube to better explain

I know kids in junior high that would get banned all the time from D2 that they'd go and steal the keys from the boxes just to keep playing. One ended up in jail a year after graduating high school for kidnapping.

There might be a VR approximation. That's what emulation is for. Advances in AI could replicate some of that. I still walk into a Best Buy once in a while, but the real disappointment is that they no longer have a clearance section of games, just at best a $20USD cardboard bin.

It hurts even more because we didn't have a PC in the house until 2009. All of those games were a mystery to me.
I had older cousins with PCs, and they were my only window into that world. I remember seeing the Diablo II box at my cousin's house. I always assumed it was a shooter until like 2008. I think that's because another cousin showed me Unreal Tournament, and that was the only real PC game (so, not including shit like browser games) I saw at length.
The only physical PC games I ever got were the Morrowind complete box, The Orange Box, and FFXIV.

I never had one of these because I live on a shitty third world country, so the most similar thing we had were pirated CD boxes with game covers on them, so I don't really care desu.

The funny part is that we never knew these bix boxes with manuals and extra content existed. We mostly relied on piracy until the 7th generation and even collector editions are rare to see because they are mostly not distributed in my country.

I know nobody asked me for this. I only wanted to share my story.

My pops was the one looking for what Silicon and Synapse next game was. Or talking about why the brand new gpu wouldn't run a game that was also brand new. Or asking about if the Pentium III was worth the upgrade over the II that we just bought a year ago.

Man, pc gaming was a fucking mess.

Some time ago I used to have an overnight watchman job at a campus server farm. I would usually just watch movies at the front desk but I would occasionally go through the offices.
