I wouldn't say way better, but I do like the inventory system, the boss fights, and the overall balance of the combat slightly more. None of the enemies are total pushovers, and it makes the challenge stay at a decent level even after multiple replays.

The game Powerslave (for PC, not the console version) is pretty much a standard Doom clone, but with the most consistently great level design ive ever seen in a shooter. Every map except for the final one is just so expansive and fun to explore. Doom is obviously great, but the level quality is really all over the place, especially in 2. IIRC some of the level designers actually made Doom wads before, so they were practiced and talented by the time they made Powerslave.

I can't play Heretic nowadays without feeling severe motion sickness. Tried to bear with it but almost puked after 15min of play. Growing old sucks

It isn't way better than Doom you are being dramatic. I do like it a lot though its my favorite of the doom clones. I could totally see it being someones favorite doom style shooter.

I remember playing the ever loving shit out of the shareware version of this game when I was a kid, but my dad wouldn't buy it for me because we "already had doom".

Then I had the shitty hexen n64 game.

Dark Forces is probably the best FPS among ones that I would still consider "Doom clones" and not something more (like Duke3D or Cybermage). And Outlaws is better than Doom too.

Heretic is a good game, but if you think it's better than DOOM your taste is suspect.

More of a Duke clone. And the levels really weren't very memorable. I had fun blasting through it but its level design is at best on par with Doom, not superior.

PS - play the console version too. It rocks.

that game was sick as hell when it came out.

So much wrong in one comment.
System Shock is not a Doom clone, and in fact is much better than Doom. Heretic is a shitty switch hunt.

>> No.9792060

>>9792053
Conceptually, yes, System Shock is a much more complex game than Doom. Doom just feels better to play and move in and has significantly better level design, enemy design, gunplay and much better graphics.
Keep your tantrums to yourself.

That's the popular opinion about Hexen, not Heretic and even then it's still wrong.

These two + the Marathon trilogy.
