How comes there are no games with that Mario 64 3DCG aesthetic?
Surely today's computers would be able to handle it, right?

no, no micropoly games. look at his shoe or hat's edges >>9784514 can you see a polyon? no, because each pixel gets its own polygon in this render technique. you will get it soon thought, tim epic made a point of bringing it back to eu5. whether it works this year or in 5 it'll happen

You'd think so but actually no. Maybe once memetracing gets cheaper.

raytracing is not going to help, because ray tracing is light simulation and how you get realistic soft shadows and bounced light, which is specifically what this look doesn't have and why people are nostalgic for it. You need absolutely basic crude shading techniques done on extremely ridiculously high polygon geometry

I guess op needs more effusive praise before he'll say how he rendered these nice images? Well, threads in in the doldrums so far good luck op

(oh ok - OP didn't remake the scene and do new renders. these are renders from the time that have been upscaled)

I feel like we could if developers were willing to capture that SGI Workstation look instead of the hyper realism they like going for these days. There still might be some visible aliasing compared to the renders but they could probably come damn close.

>> No.9787241

>>9786185
Technically the Mario 64 renders aren't "high poly" either because they aren't rendered with polygons at all to begin with

Haha it would REALLY be funny if someone drew that. Also make bowser embarrassed haha<div class="xa23b"><span class="xa23t"></span><span class="xa23i"></span></div>
