OutRun Chads get in here.
What other racing series do you tend to enjoy? For me nothing hits the spot like it, both OutRun OG (and the various spinoffs in the 90s) and 2.

Does any game capture the same energy?

When I had Sega Channel as a kid I fucking loved OutRun 2019 and didn't know it was the same franchise because it didn't have the sexy lady blowing you off in the car with her tits flying out like in the original game

I love both the original OutRun and OutRun 2. I haven't played a great deal of the original, but had a good run of it in the Cannonball source port.
As for similar games, would you say Crazy Taxi? One of my all time fave driving games, and similar in that it's about weaving through traffic and not 'racing' as such. More emphasis on drifting and the like.

adding to that:
Outrun 1 had two arcade releases with different courses (the one that gets ported everywhere is the revision). Outrun 2 also had an SP revision with all new courses. Outrun 2006 (PC) has both versions, but it adds drifting mechanics to base Outrun 2. If you want to play a straight port, you need to get the Xbox version.

I beat Lambhorghini American Challenge yesterday. I had the DOS version as a kid of Crazy Cars 3 (same game without the 2 players) but I never beat it as a kid because my version couldn't save; so I now I beat the SNES version. Looks like the Amiga version is probably the best one. Not a bad game but a bit on the easy side and it takes a while before you get upgrades that give a good sense of speed

Getting into Top Gear now, great game

I just want another racer like OutRun 2006 Coast 2 Coast made in the modern era. It's like a perfect arcade racer.
I guess some of the earlier Burnout games are pretty close in smoothness of control too.
