Top recommendation: Witch n' Wiz

Why were these excluded from No-Intro in the first place? A lot of these you can't even buy anymore.

>> No.9777092

i don't get it

>> No.9777097

Don't try to find logic in No-Intro's actions. The regular sets still contain some aftermarket games that are still being sold, while some DEMO roms have been moved to the private sets.

People who blindly replace their sets with new versions are deleting a lot of precious games like Witch n' Wiz, though.

If the game is less than 10 years old and was not freeware at the time it was added to nointro, it goes into the private database until it hits its 10th birthday.

90s scene groups would fuck with the roms and add their own shitty intros, hence no-intro which catalogues verified rom dumps.

Don't see Pier Solar here though. Is it in the full set now?

Frankly these aftermarket games shouldn't be no-intro's job in the first place. It gets too close to Goodroms once you go on an eternal hunt for everything and anything. It's dumb if the next no-intro Genesis release has a new game nobody ever heard of but it turns out it was made in 2021.

All you need to know is they are the roms you want to download in almost every case.

'intro' is a type of rom that had an intro added of the team that ripped them. This is a way to guarantee these are virgin rips.

>Frankly these aftermarket games shouldn't be no-intro's job in the first place.
I don't think they would if the NES (in particular) didn't have so many of them even during the lifetime of the console. Games like Action 52 may be shit but I can see why No-Intro would catalogue them and once you allow them you surely have to follow that on.

I guess the difference between unlicensed and aftermarket is semantics. It's more that at some point you have to close the book on a console because otherwise it becomes infinitely expanding and also nebulous as to what even should count. If you start preserving every random hobbyist game it can get real stupid real fast. Action 52 was released during the NES's active lifespan and sold at retail. Should some random game put out today by Limited Run count too? I don't want to be the guy who goes all "not everything should be preserved" but in terms of cataloguing it makes complete sense why you wouldn't want to mix them up with the legitimate library.

The TMNT roms ripped from the Cowabunga Collection? That's basically contrary to everything No-Intro stands for. It's a bastardized NES rom dump recursively dumped by No-Intro as an NES game. The fuck?

>> No.9778209

>people who take absolutely no risk in downloading roms are butthurt and upset that the people who dump and share the roms with others(and have all the risk) use a 10-year delay to avoid harming homebrew sales and making enemies
Cool anon, lets see you host a romsite with all the most recent dumps. Surely you're not some faggot who whines about people not doing something for you that you won't even do yourself, right?

>> No.9778227

>>9778201
The easiest measure for me is if a game is made using an official or at least well known hacked development kit. Some modern games are fine as long as they're made in assembler or whatever's native to the console. GB Studio and other modern compiled crap like that doesn't pass.

Few cool ones in the NES folder, like the Holy Diver english release that was cart only, that Jay and Silent Bob game, etc. The Genesis folder has Tanglewood and Xeno Crisis; the latter is really graphically impressive but I haven't put it anything on my flashcart to actually try yet.

The reason they like it so much is listed above, women have major herd instincts and lowest common denominator will always sell, there's exceptions of course bur when you find yourself wondering why most things suck its because advertisers always target women (or the aforementioned Marvel/Disney/Star Wars fans because they have no standards left and are way way worse because they don't have an excuse and should have developed taste at some point in their life)
