That one is Maniac Mansion (NES).

This one is King's Quest I for the Sega Master System.

I remember having a nes tips book when i was younger, and having my mind blown that you could microwave a hamster in that one game....

King's Quest 1 isn't point&click, it's walk&parse.

>> No.975748

Secret of Monkey Island for Sega CD. I bought Maniac Mansion on NES for $20 because I thought it was rare, and the gameplay is horrible (at least when using a Retro Duo Portable to play).
I really don't know what to say about MI1, I only have the PC version.

Fun fact: the famicom version of Maniac Mansion is actually a LOT different, including completely different graphics and musics. (a fan translation is availalbe)

You mention Deja Vu 1, but not it's sequel, or Shadowgate and Uninvited? For shame, anon...

My brother and I had Maniac Mansion for NES where you could steal the hamster and put it in the microwave. Apparently they removed it in later versions, and we had the "good" version.

Wow shit, this game looks good. Like, Lucasart-point-and-click good. The art and music kinda reminds me of Day of the Tentacle. Not bad for a Genesis.

Looks like it has some sprite scaling as well, which is somewhat impressive.

You're right, one could easily believe it was a licensed Scooby-Doo game from LucasArts.

I owned both of these when I was a kid. I had the first release with exploding hamster action.

For those who haven't yet tried the NES version of MM and for those that have, google around for the first prototype of the game that was used in that issue of Nintendo Power with the map of the mansion. It has the statue in the 2nd floor hallway, the pin-up posters in Cousin Ted's room, and the "For a good time" bit that was removed.

I liked the atmosphere and humour in this one, and how it respects the original material a lot, but I could never beat it because the puzzles are WAY too cryptic and don't make any goddamn sense. Typical flaw of point&click adventure games...

Is there an easy way to tell which version it is by looking at the cartridge?

>> No.977828

>>977798
there's only one version, all NES carts have nuke the hamster. I've heard the "nintendo removing it" rumor for years. completely untrue

>> No.977914

>>977828
Actually, it IS true, just doesn't effect US carts, just PAL carts. According to wiki...
"However, Nintendo later noticed it and demanded its removal. However, since only one printing of the NTSC version of the game was made, all North American cartridges allow the player to microwave the hamster and so only PAL-region copies are affected."
