What handhelds are we playing on today /vr/bros? What games? Thinking of consooming another handheld you don't need soon?

I'm playing Carrier on my RP3+, Sengoku Ace on my POWkiddy A12.

Do the 353 devices have enough juice to run a frame of runahead on Megadrive and Neo-Geo emulation? And for Megadrive, with this Nuked (YM2612) audio setting set as well? Is the Pocket Flip more powerful than the Pocket 3+? My decision on which one I wanna get depends entirely on which can play more games reliably. I really do prefer more vertical handhelds, my only experience with these emulation devices is the RG35XX, which I adore.

I'd dare to say this is one of the last actually true good handhelds released.
Form factor is pefect, screen is perfect, analogs and buttons are decent, it has good enough power and it's actually portable. The other ones while they are getting more power, they're also becoming less portable.

Don't know if this is the right spot or a different thread, but I have an opportunity to buy either a Neo Geo Pocket Color (silver shell, stock) or a Sega Nomad with a nicely done IPS mod - what do? I want both. I don't have a Sega Genesis so that's kind of a two birds one stone situation, except I wish I didn't have to be stuck using a big ol handheld as the P1 controller should I hook it up to my CRT (which btw my CRT has no audio, can I route the video from the Nomad to the TV then send audio out through the headphone jack into some speakers?)
Also Nomad is slightly more than twice the cost of the NGPC. What do?

Thanks anon, that's sort of what I've been thinking too - recently fell in love with the OG Model 1 sound chip, grew up with a Genesis 3 and so didn't have the best first impression but now want to return to the console with the best set up I can. NGPC is something I always thought was mysterious and cool, was allways on the periphery for me as nobody I knew irl had one and they just seemed totally inaccessible to me. The flash carts for them are cheap too, relatively. I''m thinking of getting either the Carbon or Granite one with an IPS mod + flash cart.

Very nice, it's magical innit? I think IPS mod + flash cart is a good game plan, maybe chuck in some rechargeable batteries in there too.

I had a NGPC back in the day, "mysterious and cool" is a perfect way to describe it. The microswitch thumbstick really is one of a kind, the ergonomics were great, and the visuals had such a unique flair to them. This is a really shitty way to describe it, but the active sprites were abnormally fluid for how low-res everything was, the backgrounds were abnormally detailed in contrast, and the colors were abnormally vibrant for an 8-bit machine.

The RP3+ is basically the closest thing we have to a Vita 2 imo. Great device overall, though the Vita 2k still edges it out on the ergonomic front , and the dpad is great but still not quite AS great as the one on the Vita. I play a lot of Dreamcast so I'd go with the RP3+ at this point if I had to pick only one, but if you go with the Vita, I personally recommend the 2k over the phat. Losing the OLED sucks, but the virtually perfect ergos, lighter weight, and flatter heads on the analog sticks make it the better choice imo.

The phat DOES have hall sensor sticks apparently while the 2k does not, however. You can grab replacement analogs for $3 - $5 after shipping on Aliexpress if you need them for the 2k, which I did for one of mine that started drifting. Replacement is thankfully pretty easy.

Exactly. All these cunts dunking on him for getting punished for being too nice are going to turn him into a tyrant kek. I've seen people deny this was happening because it's not juicy enough for the tortanic narrative, but I have seen several people say they did as much firsthand. Same with the ram configuration. I'd be shocked if no one has done it to change d-pad placement or from plastic to metal/vice-versa. Nil got fucked because he was nice and naive enough to recommend refunds AND offer so many color and configuration options.

Hope this doesn't cause him to go the Anbernic route of "2 - 3 (ugly?) colors, one configuration, FUCK OFF if you don't like it" next time if he ever makes another device. The option to get the 405 in plastic + d-pad up top would've made it so much more attractive to me. Pic related at maybe 210g and $145 because it's in plastic? He is wrong for the most part with that definition, but the issue is more often software rather than hardware at that benchmark he laid out so he isn't entirely incorrect.

>>9755963
KTR1 is running a fairly up to date midrange mobile SOC in 2022 so not surprising it matches the D900 more or less. But yeah, expecting flawless for 6th gen is hopium when the emulation software isn't ready for 6th gen and even the latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has issues running it. Expect everything on ARM that isn't running Apple Silicon M chips with macOS to not even come close.

Oh okay, but yes, the post still applies. Nothing is getting "flawless" 6th generation emulation right now, but at best for that pricepoint, you can expect the ability to run well known working games even if it takes hacks and frameskip. On ARM, that is more than good enough given where the $100-$150 market is right now and how cheap and better chips can get in a year or so especially given how the Cortex X line of cores are likely to get into the $200 pricepoint with SOCs now getting them there in mobile with the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2.

Yeah RP3+ seems decent but desu the vita seems next level for ergonomics. I know it's not as powerful but for what I'd use it for (gameboy color + advance + snes) it seems fine. Perfect psx and psp 2x resolution and rudimentary n64 support too. Hell, there's even a custom Mario 64 60fps version for it. For the ergo and handheld the vita seems like the best thing now. I have a steam deck for anything real 3D that I want to play like ps2 and GameCube so I won't miss that.

It's funny. I had a launch Vita in 2012 but I sold it a year later because no games. Now I'm buying it again just because it was a beautiful machine and the best hardware I can imagine for revisiting classic games. Honestly, I don't know anymore if it is a problem with the mgba core, the Anbernic RG351V, or the rom itself. So my question: For people who play GBA games on the RG351 family, does it struggle with frame rate drops when some special effects happen?

I have been playing the Pokémon Clover Romhack, and every time a status attack has a a effect applied to the entire pokemon sprite (like a fast rainbow like cycling), it drops from 60 to 53 fps and the sound starts cuts until the effect is over.

I though it was the Anbernic, or maybe ArkOS not being great. I copied the savegame to the phone, a Galaxy A52 with 6 times the ram of the rg351 and a much better GPU and... same situation. I don't know if the romhack is attempting a graphical technique that was not possible on the original hardware and what I'm seeing is accurate emulation.

Also while I think get the praise for the screen in general, I don't get the degree of praise for the aspect ratio. It's certainly better than 16:9 or god forbid 20:9 for 4:3 games, but it's still relatively wider than 16:10 and 3:2.

If what you really want is power rather than being drawn to the formfactor, then yeah it's probably a good idea to wait. KTR1 will probably be out soon, RP4 will probably come out this summer or fall with a D900/comparable chip, RP Flip+ with the same chip will probably be a few months after that, and it sounds like the upcoming Powkiddy Max 3 is gonna have some considerable juice as well. None of these will be perfect for PS2 obviously, but they'll be pretty decent.

There's also already existing GPD XP+ with a D1200 that's pretty close to perfect for PS2, but I wouldn't call it affordable and has a horrific aspect ratio. An upcoming RG506 is supposed to have the same chip and should be a reasonable size with a 5 inch screen, but apparently it will have d-pad on bottom so I've already written it off, and knowing Anbernic I expect the price to suck. Then there's the upcoming Aya Neo Air Pocket and supposedly a Ayn Odin 2 being worked on, but who fucking knows when those will be out or how much they'll cost.

alternatively you can just get a 64gb Deck for 10% off right now and be done with it.

I've been using an RG351 model for the last 2 years. This year it seems like we are getting some actual handhelds instead of everyone trying to copy the Shitendo Switch/Shit Deck.

These two currently look to be the most promising, I'll wait for enough people to buy them to get the CFW patches rolling and to bring up any negatives. Powkiddy tend to use cheap plastic hopefully this one doesn't.

I understand it plays pc games but honestly I wouldn't mind if it costed more and the user experience was more refined, the graphics isn't a large selling point as I have an m1 ipad.

Even though its been a year the software still sorta sucks and the other space takes up too much space on the 64 gb model. Like why even sell that version sell it if it gets filled up after you install a few games.

There are problems with stuttering in certian games and in forza horizon 5 the game just straight up crashed on me, and that was a game valve advertised ran well on the deck.

Installing games from other launchers is bad and using it as a pc doesn't really work, windows doesn't work well at all, running it on an external ssd.

The whole device from the software to the user experience is very first gen to the point where it hurts the overall experience. Even for £349 I still feel like the price is a bit too high for all the issues it has, it's really really a first gen product.

Most say it looks like a poor mans setup.
I had a smaller bluetooth 8bitdo before, but my hands are huge, imagine a farmer that digs for potatoes 8 hours a day, every day. My wife likes to get a good fingering, but my hands aren't very good for small retro handhelds.
Had the LDK, it was a disaster.
Anyway, i replaced the smaller SN30 (picrel) with the larger Pro 2.

The tablet is better than any handheld in every aspect except, portability, no doubt. But it would be a shame if i dropped it in bath water, which is why i wanted something cheaper. Enter the RG35XX.

Hello almighty handheld lovers
I've come for your guidance having very little experience in this regard

I would like to run the following in the order of priority
- dos games
- psx games
- SNES / GBA / GBC
- maybe other platforms as well

Do I understand correctly that an android phone with emulators is my best bet considering i want to play dos games?
I tried playing touchscreen and it sucks fucking ass, serviceable for some games (usually turnbased) at best

For lower end chips, yeah, but the problem is as chips get hotter and more power hungry, difference naturally will happen with performance like if cooling is insufficient or the boost behavior of the device is different. That's why smartphone still have top end comparisons pertaining to performance even with the same chips, the variance of the implementation can vary an entire chip tier based on how good the software is at managing the hardware. You can do this with literally every video he uploads. Both the specs part of the video and the written description. The fact that here he has mislabeled the *name of the product he is reviewing* twice in two different ways in the thumbnail is toppest of keks. Usually they have the next and the one after that in a development pipeline. That means, they are reducing their production runs to 2 or maybe three batches. Only more if the device is popular.
Meaning, in 2 month after the first availability to the general public, a decision must be made if the next one will be announced. If so, the prices fall to get rid of stock.
Again, depends on popularity.

I'm literally doing this at the moment, I've switched smartphones recently and I can't really sell my old one for much, I could make a little money, but very little... so I'm turning it into a full time handheld emulation station, all I need is a controller.

>>9767061
Not that I know of, the closest you can get are the ones with the Wii U style, where it's symmetrical, but the analog sticks are on top, still it's better for 2D than assymetrical sticks, from the top of my head there's the MOCUTE-060, the IPEGA PG-9167 and the Razer Jungle Cat, if you want an actual controller though, there's the IPEGA PG-9017s too.
