Why are you guys always picking on my boy, Wrath? It was my first Crash and I love it.

Made by fagler fails
Feels like half of the animation of warped. Feels like a half baked warped remake by a mid tier developer

It was stinky
Even as a child getting this for chistmas and being super hyped i could tell it was off and a bit shitty

I've got some nerve saying this on /vr/, but take off the nostalgia goggles. It's mediocre at best.

If it was the first Crash game you played I can understand why you'd like it. It copies the formula of the original trilogy so taken in vacuum it's probably an ok game. However when you compare it to the originals the physics are a lot more floaty, the enemies and animations and lackluster and weird depth perception, camera is worse, tiptoe is lame. If it was the first entry in the series I expect people would be a lot more forgiving, but it was the first platforming game to following the original trilogy AND the first Crash game on new consoles. The bar was set very high and WoC failed to reach it.

IIRC it was rushed, they had bigger aims for a more open-world or plot-driven game which were scrapped, remnants of which are still present in some of the final levels. Not that I think open-world or plot-heavy are good things when it comes to Crash Bandicoot, but maybe if they'd focused on making a Warped clone from the start it would've at least been a lot more polished.

I loved this shit as a kid but replaying it feels horrible. Especially sad after learning the ideas they originally had for it. Still has a special place in my heart tho :3

It gets a lot of shit but I think it has redeeming qualities, coming from someone who played the first 3 beforehand as a kid. Main platforming levels are nice, the trippy techno music gives it a special character appropriate for its time (sure beats the goofy music of 3 with all the token elements of the different time periods) and most of the secondary gimmicks like the hamster ball or gyrocopter thing were pretty cool. Sometimes laughably ugly but I remember the lighting being nice. Solid in a lot of respects but inferior otherwise, couldn't care less about the autistic purists who thought it didn't live up to expectation. iirc they pulled the rug on the fact that it was outsourced by not including the new developer on the front cover and all the kids got bamboozled

I disliked it when came out for the load times and just being generally worse than the ps1 games. Replayed it twice recently and had way more fun than expected, partly because the load weren't as bad on the greatest hits version and just many worse games had come out since then. I even liked it more than Crash 4 which would have been a much better game had they not turned it into a bloated slogfest to complete.

It's a decent game with great music. I'll play it again at some point. It's the real Crash 4. Japan got it right.

Because it's a worse version of Warped which was already terrible.

it wasn't just rushed, the publishers flat out ordered them to make the game follow the format of the ps1 games

they did cortex dirty following the first trilogy, going from some esoteric mad scientist to sniveling comic relief and it just escalated for every title. just full on whitewashed into a clown, kinda lost its charm past twinsanity even if it was a caricature from the start
