Anyway, let's discuss our favorite Robot Masters: best and worst batch? best and worst design/concept overall? Robot Master that is literally you?

Only MM6's contest was open to the west, and only North America

Yeah, I've seen that claim in the MM wiki (and the two winning selections came from Canada and the USA sure enough), but the larger "honorable mention" list suggest the competition was open worldwide-ish. I remember seeing an ad in a Spanish magazine too, I'll try to dig it up later.

I wonder how many "Dick Mans" and "Ass Mans" they had to sift through for each of these contests.

My favorite will always be Cut Man.

I mean I guess there was nothing stopping you from sending a postcard from anywhere in the world, but you had to be aware of the things existence first. And I don't think it was advertised anywhere outside of Japan until 6

Mega Man 3's is my favorite squad of RMs; the only lame one is Top Man.
Worst squad award though would go to MM6 probably.

Coolest design may go to Tengu Man, though I love Shadow Man's classy simplicity. The best concept would go to Magnet Man or Gemini Man.
Charge Man is plain lame in all regards, but Shade Man has probably the dumbest concept.

Clown Man is literally me. Intelligent, nihilistic and with a wicked sense of humour. Seriously though it's Oil Man.

perhaps but also a genius marketing ploy

Yes, I submitted for the MM6 round that was advertised in Nintendo Power. Gum Man. He was an anthromorphic pack of chewing gum. He'd shoot sticky wads of gum around, and then spray a bunch of bullets around, sort of like Flash Man without the time freeze. Never got any kind of response, not even the cursory participation letter, which was upsetting to me as a kid. I have long ago lost the sketch I made, otherwise I'd post it.

The guy who submitted Bright Man's design for MM4 nowadays works as a professional illustrator for a bunch of stuff, including courtroom illustrations. He still has the golden cartridge and even appeared on a tv show where they appraised valuable objects and he went with the game.

That’s hysterical just imagine an art book where it was just the 1000s of submissions listed in alphabetical order. First few pages would be assman concepts. Fuck this gay world that is an art book if actually appreciate owning, seeing all of these immature offensive ideas mixed in with cool ones, and it all be presented in a high quality official looking package.

We know about this guy and Yusuke Murata going on to do actual illustrated work; do we know of any of the other RM Contest people going on to do anything notable?
