The original weapons from Halo, especially the assault rifle, were specifically designed to be recognizable by silhouette which is why they have a unique look. For a while the Halo Assault Rifle was as recognizable as the
Pulse Rifle from Aliens if not more so. I’d say a 2005 normal fag might be able to recognize the assault rifle from Halo, but that’s pretty much it as far as video game guns being iconic goes.
Fun fact: People though FN copied Halo and vice versa with the FN2000 which began full production in 2001.

God I fucking love the look of the classic assault rifle. I like halo 2 more than halo 1 but always missed the assault rifle. Halo weapon balancing seems like a nightmare because of dual weilding though which has came and gone through the years for some weapons. Pretty sure dual weilding smgs is why they got rid of it in halo 2. (Fun fact fastest way to kill enemy players online in banshees or scorpions is to dual wield smgs, it’s just how the game calculates vehicle damage)

it's the difference between being recognizable as a pistol and being recognizable as being "a specific pistol from a video game". I don't understand how this concept is difficult, but I will illustrate. This is deckard's gun. It is iconic not as a specific type of weapon (though admittedly it is fuctional), but rather from being from the movie Blade Runner. Now imagine another weapon, a real one used in the real world. If the weapon is commonly used and well-known, but not specifically as a namesake or trademark weapon of a fictional character, then would you put it on a list of "most famous weapons in film" just because a few characters in a movie used it? No, you would not, because it's not famous for being in a movie; It's famous for being itself. You would put Deckard's gun, because it's famous BECAUSE it's in a movie, not because it's a famous gun that JUST HAPPENS TO BE in a movie.

tl;dr it's all about where the fame comes from. Shit that's recognizable for being in a game is what belongs in this thread, not shit that's just recognizable just for being in real life and that happens to be used in a game.

i don't think you understand. see, "iconic" can be divided into two parts: what nerds know, and what "regular" people know. one thing you will eventually realize in this life, if you haven't already, is that most people are NPCs. not figuratively, but literally. 95% of people you see have nothing in common with you unless you are a chink or an indian. they don't know anything, they are hollow. even if they saw some "iconic" weapon 20 years ago, they'd soon forget it to make room for new media. at best, you encounter a video game hipster with surface level knowledge and a zelda tattoo, but don't ever expect your average NPC to relate to you. in reality, almost none of these weapons are iconic because the vast majority you base your interpetation upon, has no idea they even exist.
