I got my Dreamcast for 40 USD and I thought I got ripped off. Then I played some of the less popular DC games like Evolution: The World of Sacred Device and Napple Tale and I was like hey this isn't half bad after all. I think the DC suffers from some of its more popular games like Sonic Adventure being ass, giving the average joe the idea the console is a jank machine.

Only way to get one now is to buy a clone from china and cross your fingers that it's a good one.
Pic related was tested and used by a lot of known modders and confirmed to work correctly, have the latest firmware installed, and can be updated if the fat fuck pushes a new one out (though there's no reason to upgrade now that every single Dreamcast game works correctly on 5.20.3)

For me it's a multiplat machine with some interesting niceties. I don't think it stands too well on its own but if you want to play a perfect port of Rayman 2 on OG hardware you don't have that many options. Plus you get some bizarre games like Illbleed. If I got a Dreamcast over a PS2 at the time I would have been immensely disappointed but can't shit on it too much nowadays.
