I'm playing through Fusion for the first time and getting my ass smoked by Nightmare.
>First two phases are easy, charge shot the glowing thingy until it falls off
>All hell breaks loose on the third face when his face opens to be hit. He slowly approaches for a brief period and then suddenly does whatever the fuck he wants and I have to blind react space jump or roll around the room to avoid his random bullshit

I've beaten ZM, AM2R, and Super before, but this guy is like five levels above anything in those games in terms of difficulty. Is there something I'm missing?

>> No.9686152

he's hard. phantoon in SM is the only other metroid boss that has given me trouble.
with phantoon it's helpful to use the pseudo-screw attack (somersault while charged).
i can't remember, but that technique might be helpful for this fight too.

this has to be the ugliest Metroid Boss of all time.

He is not even the hardest boss in the game. Ridley is much worse because it all boils down to having collected enough e-tanks and praying to god as he rapes your ears.

you have to use your position to control him
make him think you're standing somewhere you're not

Just gotta take a break sometimes. Fuck that boss and ridley.

>> No.9686590

I don't think the Fusion bosses really have meaningful patterns they're just apeshit stress tests. Like you're actually fighting the thing in question instead of playing DDR with it.

>> No.9686729

honestly no other boss in that game compares to that fucking spider.

>> No.9686737

it's basically a final exam on your space jump skill. Just focus on practicing getting over his back without taking damage and you'll beat him soon enough.

>Phantoon in SM
Don't use Super missiles on him, and he's much easier. There's a sweeping attack that covers the entire screen ONLY when you use a Super Missile on him.

I didn't struggle with any of the bosses in Fusion and didn't even know they were supposed to be hard. You know what's hard? Mother Brain and that fucking Mecha Ridley in Zero Mission. The funniest thing about those two is that I played the series in release order and was like
>heh... I beat the original Metroid game, 'Nintendo hard', amirite? this zoomer remake with dumbed down difficulty can't have any challenging things in it

Unless you're doing a low% run, you should be able to tank him no problem.

I had luck grabbing onto the ladder and spamming missiles at the start of the third phase.

>>9687194
Mecha Ridley wasn’t too bad, but Mother Brain took me dozens of attempts. The fucking projectiles, the minuscule platforms on top of lava and the annoying vulnerability window were all such a huge pain.

Don't know about the original but in ZM you can crouch on the edge of the tube after breaking the glass and shoot missiles diagonally into MB's eye, after the projectile of course

Yes clearly that's what the devs intended. You fucking troglodyte. This is like saying you can catch every Pokemon in Gen 1 if you just manipulate the RAM.

I always thought he was easier than the Super Metroid Ridley. Charged plasma cuts through him like butter.

a big reason why that boss is hard in zm is the convoluted process for aiming while crouched. As much as it sucked having to use select to switch to rockets in super, having a shoulder button for both upwards and downwards aim is a godsend when you need to do crouched shots.

>> No.9688256

Well, I found him easier than the spider boss.
Nightmare can be just blasted with rockets barrage while this guy waltzes around with fully covered weakpoint most of the time.

i learned a long time ago fully charged beam weapons out damage missles, even supers.
that being said, you don't want to hit phantoon with all your beams or he goes into a more difficult pattern; usually you turn ice off for the first strike in a pattern.

that being said, i find him difficult because i like to sequence break into the wrecked ship using a shinespark, and that leaves samus weak. i don't usually take the time to get her health back up before facing off against phantoon. he's game-overed me more than anything else in the game.

To be fair, ZM does tard wrangle you all over the place. Not as bad as Fusion but it's pretty annoying how it just reveals where upgrades are.

lol Nightmare isn't hard. The key thing is to just prioritize charged beam attacks over missiles. Trying to spam missiles and then getting owned during the gravity bending sections is usually the biggest mistake I see people make.

>> No.9689923

>>9689903
The key thing is to use your space jump effectively. Nightmare always follows you but is slow to turn so you need to bait him into flying in ways that give you lots of room to dodge.
