I mean, it has the most schizophrenic OST of all time. A game has never been able to reproduce this level of anxiousness in a song, it was as if some mentally ill human being composed this:

Not to mention this fucking song:

It's pretty good, but would have been a lot better if the N64 had proper sound hardware or CD audio. Some of the tracks sound kinda bad because of the low quality soundfont. Hyrule field is one example. The trumpets just sound hilariously bad.

Yeah it used to be stuff like Fleet Foxes, Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, etc. just white people making relatively normal rock/folk music, or maybe a little more experimental like Animal Collective. People called it gay at the time, but it looks pretty good now. They would never promote white bands now unless it was LGBT shit

some of the ambient tracks from OoT are really bold middle fingers to the homogeneous polish big budget family-oriented games would restrict themselves to these days. Don't want to scare those littlies and risk maximum revenue!

However as far as the melodious numbers go, I think aLttP might even surpass OoT:

Honestly OoT is carried by like 3 or 4 songs being absolutely incredible and the rest is mostly just okay
>Saria's Song/Lost Woods Theme
>Goron Cave Theme
>Kakariko Village
>Temple of Time Theme
>Gerudo Desert
I guess that makes 5 actually. Notice how all of these can be heard very early in the adventure, when the game is still establishing its world and getting you invested? Very effective frontloading of its best content and it absolutely worked.

I think you're gonna spend the rest of the thread trying to play down criticism of the music, because it's not very good. Tooty horns and non-descript ambient rifled through the choking midi of the n64 - it's not a very interesting soundtrack. As generic as it gets before you hit jeremy soule territory.

OoT has one of the greatest final boss tracks of all time and it's shockingly under appreciated considering how massively well-regarded the game itself is. In fact I'd say the entire final sequence (everything from the Ganondorf fight until "The End" appears on-screen) is exemplary, a damn near perfect crystallization of everything a fantasy epic's ending could and should be in video game form, and it doesn't get nearly enough recognition whenever people are discussing the game
