I have an old RPG maker game that was so bad that no one else kept a copy. Even the developer was so ashamed of his cringey fail that he deleted all the original source, assets, etc and scrubbed the games existence from the internet. It's literally impossible to get any more rare than this.

Probably some old Mac or PC game
Unfortunately rarity has fuck all to do with value so they're all pretty much worthless

>> No.9678390

>no one else kept a copy
No, because you can't be certain of this statement. For all you know, someone could have it sitting on a hard drive in their attic (which happens more often than you'd think. It's the only reason we have a lot of the RPGmaker games from that era archived). A rarer game is one that was never distributed in any form.

>> No.9678542

Probably Dragon Force or Sonic Jam in terms of recent prices, but Saturn games have always been insanely inflated in price, not sure that those games are really that "rare" in terms of print number or anything.

>>9678390
Makes you wonder whether a rare game ceases to become so, descriptively speaking, once it's been ripped onto the internet.

I tend to think of the rarest games as being some of those ancient arcade cabinets and PCBs from the 70s and 80s, the ones that are intact are holy grail items, hoarded but ostensibly by a different community from the people who buy up Nintendo and Sega dev kit stuff. I would love to see a Simutrek Cube Quest cabinet in person, obscure arcade games like that.

>> No.9678752

I... don't know. Some of the rarer games I have are apparently fairly worthless in terms of what they go for (Such as Electroplankton which IIRC you had to order directly from Nintendo, or the DS Game and Watch collections which IIRC were Nintendo Club awards... at least in the US).

I think in terms of what they go for, the "rarest" game I have even though it's not rare at all is Megaman on NES with the box and everything... and I only got that a year ago from a garage sale that was selling it for 25 cents.

Of course I never looked through my entire list of games, but I am pretty certain I have nothing among the likes of any "Most rare and expensive game evarrr!!!111" games in any of those lists.

Dont know about "rarity", but in value off the top of my head, I have Stronghold for the 2600, Little Samson (jap) for the Famicom/NES, boxed Jetsons for the NES, Wild Guns for the snes and boxed EarthBound, Sculpter's Cut for the 64, Cubivore and Phantasy Star Online Plus for the gamecube, Alien Soldier on mega drive (Jap), Popful Mail on Sega CD, Super Tempo, Shinrei Jusatsushi Tarōmaru, Mega Man 8(US), Albert Odyssey(US) and Shining Wisdom(US) for Saturn, Illbleed (jap) and Napple Tale for Dreamcast, Bomberman 93 Special Version for PC-Engine(this may actually be legit rare), Vasteel(US) for TurboDuo and Zelda's Adventure for CDi.

and Poop Slinger on the PS4

For actual rarity, I have Drowned God for the PC and a bunch of jap PC stuff (and probably a lot of obscure american and european as well)

I gave up trying to get a copy of the rare 64 games I was missing and just got the super cheap jap versions. Goemon Great Adventure and 2nd Attack are under 1000 yen and I paid like 3000 for Super Bowling which i think from what i paid is entirely in english anyway minus the notices that pop up regarding data saving. I do regret however putting back the 5 dollar copy of Stuntracer I was going to buy until my dumb ass decided to pick up the 10 dollar Wizardry 5 for SNES instead, so I feel like some day my autism will make me pay out the ass for it. Never really paid that much for any of the pricey or rare stuff I have though, so theres at least that.

Based. This is my favorite game of all time too. I have the real cart and manual. I have a custom case to cope with the fact that I will never own the real box. >>9678682
Yeah it was always rare and expensive even back then. Loose cart was over $100 at time when most games were under $10.

It's a late title, one of the last games we got in the US, so it wasn't on shelves very long. And it wasn't published by Nintendo like the previous two games, so it got a minimum cart run and barely any advertising.

There probably was a lot of copies never sold. It's surprisingly common to see it sealed.

I actually used to have something like that. It's a pretty unfortunate story in a lot of ways.

In like around 89-90 my dad and his friend were working on some interesting stuff. They were trying to do online multiplayer games, which IDK maybe something existed then but even if it did they were one of the first, and pretty ahead of their time. They mostly finished their first game, which played kind of like asteroids, but two players (they planed to support more) were on the field and could shoot at each other too. You could configure your ships with different engine power, weapons, shields, etc. it was actually pretty fun to play and the ship sprites looked really good. Then my dad's friend died suddenly and the whole thing fell apart.

I always thought the thing was really interesting, and liked to play it so in the early 00s I made sure to back it up from his old 486 pc to my new (at the time) windows XP box. I didn't have the foresight to back up the art assets or source code. Unfortunately that hard drive failed and it's probably lost forever. It might be on some floppy disk somewhere and I really hope I find it again.
