What are your favorite retro collections? Pic related.

I played this one a ton. I've gone through The Revenge of Shinobi, Shadow Dancer, Shining in the Darkness, Shining Force, Shining Force II, Space Harrier II, Galaxy Force II, Phantasy Star II, Phantasy Star III, Phantasy Star IV, Bonanza Bros, Altered Beast, Golden Axe, Golden Axe II, Golden Axe III, Sword of Vermillion, Vectorman, Toejam and Earl, Crack Down, Streets of Rage 2, and Alien Storm.

I have to get through a few others. At the moment I'm chipping away at Beyond Oasis.

a friend of mine got an NES cartridge in about 1990 or so that had like 500 NES games on it, all licensed ones I think but was a bootleg cart. His dad got it for him from Singapore. I've never seen it anywhere else though. We played the shit out of it for years it was awesome. The game select screen was very basic, it was all blue with like a green palm tree or something in the corner, I haven't been able to find it online though

The PS2 Street Fighter Alpha collection since they remade/ported the games to instead of emulating so IIRC A2 Gold and A3 Upper are technically new versions of those games and Hyper A3 is entirely new. Also had dip switches for each game so you could toggle things around and play specific revisions of each game.

There's enough good Genesis games that pretty much any collection with a few dozen games is going to be satisfactory but it pisses me off the way there always seems to be a blatantly obvious omission.

Like, the collection on the PS3 is very good and comprehensive but it only has the original Arcade Shinobi and Shinobi III, no Revenge or Shadow Dancer. And the PSP version has III and Shadow Dancer but also leaves out Revenge and doesn't include the arcade game as an unlockable bonus like the PS3 version. But you can buy Revenge separately as a standalone release which I assume is the whole reason to not include it in either collection. Fucking cheesy.

There's also...
Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection
Sonic Mega Collection
TMNT The Cowabunga Collection
Namco Arcade Museum

Plus...
SNES Mini
NES Mini
Sega Genesis Mini
PC Engine/Turbo Grafx 16 Mini

Since these minis have a collection of good games and they're hackable, allowing you to add more games.

I never played Plus but damn I put a ton of time into the base version back in the day. I had the first two games on Genesis but everything else was all brand new to me. The inclusion of all the original manuals, and stuff like comic book covers (that I didn't even know existed until this) made it so much cooler than the majority of similar collections today. Seeing the menu and hearing the music still gives me the feels.

You don't know how many hours i've sank on Puzzle Fighter and the Buster Bros. games with this collection (almost never touched Block Block, and the one rare time i did it was a very unpleasent experience where the paddle is such a pain in the ass to control). It has the best version of all the games included, only downside is Buster Buddies' redone graphics which look worse than the cutesy ones found in the original arcade version and PS1 "Buster Bros. Collection" version.

>> No.9667531

>>9661069
It was mainly worth it because of having an arcade perfect version of 3S since the DC version had some issues: input lag and I think some things that worked in the arcade version didn't work like Urien's Aegis set ups. Also IIRC it came with a guide that was pretty good since it was put together by actual tournament players so it was a decent way of introducing higher level play to players and said guide also had the 3S OST.

>>9661451
I really wish companies would stop working with Digital Eclipse because of how consistently awful and lazy they are. I imagine they're incredibly cheap which is the only reason anyone farms out work on these collections to them.

>> No.9667574

>>9667371
It's really not any better than the Legacy Collection and it had really weird bugs like your controller would randomly stop working forcing you to reset. It was a British developer that did it so the fact it's pretty shit is unsurprising. The X Collection (developed internally by Capcom) is way better in that regard. Alpha Anthology on the PS2 is still the gold standard and most of SNK's PS2 collections (the Fatal Fury, World Heroes, and Art of Fighting ones) are pretty good as well.

That's the LEGACY collections, those are the modern ones. And yes, Capcom pulled that shit with the Switch version..... in the US at least, you could get it all on-cart in Japan.

The problem being they released TWO Legacy collections, first one has 1-6 and the second has 7-10. When they released 1+2 together the US got the first one on cart and was forced to download the second, Japan got them on two separate carts. Just Capcom being cheap, both the Legacy collections together could have fit on a 4GB cart, the first one is under 1GB even!. The Anniversary Collections have Megaman 1-8 on the disk, 9 would not exist for another 4-5 years after those collections were released.

>> No.9668263

>>9663778
Not sure if you knew, but with the 3 Japanese releases you can unlock a hidden game by having a save file for the previous game on your 3ds, basically meaning that having a save for the first collection unlocks a hidden game in the second collection, and having a save for the second unlocks a hidden game in the third
