I agree OP, it's better than SML 2, I hate how zoomed in SML 2 is, reminds me of Super Mario Bros Deluxe being zoomed in so platforms and enemies that would usually be visible in the NES version aren't, whereas SML 1 treats the field of vision like a monitor, so sprites may be tiny, but at least you can see everything you need to see in your field of view.

>> No.9653890

I always liked that SML felt like its own weird little Mario game. SML2 is "technically" better but it basically just feels like a watered-down SMW.

SML is just a quick little game to romp through when you've got like 20-30 minutes to kill. No bullshit.

>> No.9653891

>>9653479
to be fair sml2 slowed mario way down so the zoom in doesn't affect you much, but that's why i prefer sml1. soundtrack is better, zips along at a much better pace and doesn't overstay its welcome

Probably the only Mario platformer I don't care for. Mario must have smooth movement for it to work. SML Mario feels locked into arbitrary positions. And don't blame the hardware when SML2 runs on the same limitations.

It's alright. I don't remember getting far when I was a kid, for some reason, but I replayed it just the other day and had a decent time finishing it and the hard mode. It straight up copy and pastes mulitple screens which is a bummer, but I understand how cool it was to have Mario on the GameBoy at the time.

>While working on the Mario Land franchise, the team even managed to create Nintendo's anti-hero named Wario and sway from using the character (Mario) they had no creative passion for. Wario Land became Nintendo R&D1;'s big hit. It continued the excellent level design of the Super Mario Land series but now with a character that was not created by Miyamoto and instead a character symbolizing R&D1;'s situation.

Every time the devs talk about the development of Mario Land 2 they never even remotely hint at this. Where does this writer get this from? It feels like heavy editorializing and a major assumption.
