they dont tell u that gcn was nintendos early rock bottom in japan. yamauchi left and iwata effectively rebooted NoA. they were seen as a joke, although there was an earnest effort early on (sega, capcom) to support the brand. nintendo was also obsessed with the gba/gcn link cable shenanigans. dark ages i tell you

after mid 2003 there was no 3rd party software. devs fleeing the sinking ship

ds really bailed them out, even more than the wii whch didnt really turn the tides on desirable software (yeah i know they did shift software, but they couldnt capture the core console demographics of the fc/sfc era at all)

Nintendo should have pushed for the Panasonic Q ahead of time, but good god they were retarded.

This thing wasn't good though. If you weren't careful the Gamecube discs could get stuck in the drive mechanism.

too many buttons for a nintendo product

I mean fucks sake, the PS2 did DVDs and didn't need that many buttons either. What the fuck do they need all that shit for.

Not many Japs here and you can look up the sales in Google so not sure what the point of this thread is

It got a lot of great games Japan loved, though, be it Melee, Tales of Symphonia, Animal Crossing, RE4 or all the Mario stuff

>great games japan loved

its the only nintendo console with no mario game that sold over a million units in japan. it was a universal flop. a fucking gigaton. even the wii u managed two mario games over a million (mario maker + NSMBU)

tales was quickly ported to the ps2 because it was an objective sales failure. devs did not touch the gamecube unless they were contractually obligated

Great games shit sales, Sony raped them in the ass.
Wonder how the market would be bow days if Sony didn't fucked up the PS3 or at least got the exclusivity deal for MH4.

There were great games which appealed to me. Sadly the PS2 had most of the heat at the time.

>the GameCube era
The audacity of thinking there was a "gamecube era" when gamecube was the third wheel console of it's era, lmao, fanboyism creates pure delusion

Where is you 1080 Silver Storm? There is no GC collection without a 1080 game!! Fake fan. I lost all respect for you anon.

>> No.9654554

Gamecube underperformed pretty much everywhere, lifetime sales were less than half what Nintendo had predicted. They were particularly disappointed that its reasonably powerful architecture was severely underused, since most devs didn't bother porting their games to yet another also-ran. The wholesale recycling of Gamecube's architecture for the Wii was a means of recouping what they saw as sunk costs.

while Iwata on his arrival reduced the royalties to align himself with MS/Sony, hence the arrival of Capcom or Twin Snake games, but that was not enough.

>> No.9654631

>>9654554
Also instead of admitting the problem was with them, Nintendo claimed there was a "gamer drift" and people just didn't want to play games anymore.

Definitely feels like a more "for kids" system more so then the rest of the world. Thats just a cursory glance on my part over the years, the overwhelming amount of stuff i have seen was focused squarely on that "E/E10" demographic with even the equivalent of "T" rated stuff not being as common as the west got.

For snowboarding, I only got SSX games. With limited resources, I had to make a choice and the SSX games were cheaper at the time.

>>9654651
I have no idea about that one. Sometimes I have to pass on games because they were either expensive or not marketed enough to get my attention.

>>9654737
It is not different from other games in the series aside from more "bitmappy" graphics opposed to pixel art. The control is a bit more awkward to use the smaller d-pad of a standard controller though. I still love puzzle bobble games for the simple and fun gameplay.
