Amazing technical achievements? Or simply animations with brief button-sense pauses?

some of the ports are unplayable
some of them are quite fun
all of them are expensive

well it was simply animations with brief button-sense pauses, but that was a novel idea at the time, one of the first quicktime event games i guess. It was interesting seeing it in the arcade, it looked good compared to a lot of other games (because it was just a short movie really), but I never played it much because it was too hard and i was too young to play it properly

Just incredible work on the Amiga. Proof that floppys were the true format all along.

Nice use of Laser Disc technology to showcase off animated video in a game. The animation is top notch. The OG arcade game will always be the benchmark, as many of the early home CD consoles couldn't match laser disc technology.

yeah it was pretty expensive compared to anything else seeing how easy it was to die

The version on PSN is an excellent port and it was like $10 when I bought it.

I always hoped they'd remake Dragons Lair but now with total control over the character, but keeping the exact same animation style.

>Game makes things flash to tell players what action to take
>the alchemist's room has the potion flash as soon as you see it
>using action to drink it kills you
>solution is to wait for the fire to overtake the room while the flask flashes repeatedly and instead take the door on the right (which also flashes)
I can never tell if this was them teaching you that you could "interact" with objects or just a beginner's trap.

it came very late to the table (2019) but the most amazing technical achievement of Dragons Lair on a home machine has to be the Texas Instruments Ti-994A version. it only had 16kb of RAM and how this game was squeezed onto the cartridge was nothing short of incredible

That "drink me" sign is such an obvious indication it's a trap it's mostly them checking if you're dumb enough to fall for it.

>holy cow you've just made my year anon, thank you so much

The came came out in 2002 for the PS2, Xbox, Gamecube and Windows PC, and is technically the third game in the series. It was an attempt to do cell shaded like graphics in real time and emulate the look of the original game. It wasn't a bad attempt. But I am sure it is possible to do something even closer to the original game now.

I think the Dragon's Lair property is asleep at the moment.
Last major thing to come from it was an 2015 indiegogo raising money for a Pitch Presentation to make a full animated movie, but then in 2020 it became a live action project instead with Ryan Reynolds and nothing's come of it yet.

NES Dragon's Lair graphics is too good to be true. Controls are a pain in the ass, though.

the Commodore 64 version of Dragons Lair II was nothing like the arcade but its soundtrack was staggeringly good, may be its finest moment:

I only remember this game because a big deal was made out of it running in HD on the Xbox. It was one of the few games to actually run at native 1080i with no upscaling in any direction and it was a fairly early game for the system as well in 2002.
First HD game on a home console if I recall correctly.

>>9651971
I hoped for the same thing. but seeing it in action, man, gameplay was not what these games were about. it was all about the cartoon look, the quick responses, the sudden dire situations, and the constant camera angles making it feel like a feature length movie. giving you full autonomy kind of ruins that feel.

GT4 was technically HD but only in Photo Mode, the game itself wasn't playable in HD. But it's interesting because all the models are more detailed than what can be shown in SD, as you can easily see for yourself in Photo Mode.

so the 1080i mode wasn't for the main game?
