Discount Ninja Gaiden published by Sammy and made by an obscure developer who released a couple of Famicom games but this was their only US release.

My rich cousin gave me his cartridge when his parents got him the 32-bit consoles.

The weapon and transformation systems add some variety to the gameplay, and the staff/bird could be used to skip sections of some levels.

I remember getting frustrated with the later levels that weren't skippable, though, and never beat it on the FC.
