>Virtua Fighter 2 was one of the few 3D fighting games you could play on PC actually anon.

Back in the mid 90's Sega worked with a PC publisher called Expert software, and ported many of their Sega Saturn games to Windows 95. There is Virtua Fighter PC, which was a port of the Sega Saturn Virtua Fighter Remix. There is a port of Virtua Fighter 2, which was a direct port of the Saturn game, with some enhancements. There's also a port of Last Bronx for Win95 too, and that was also a port of the Saturn game. The PC ports do contain some extras like hardware acceleration via D3D, and some games contain the arcade meshes and such. Virtua Fighter 2 was ported to the PS2 in Japan, and has a 360 and PSN port. Virtua Fighter 3 is a much more obscure game, because it was only ported to the Dreamcast.

>> No.9616790

>>9616742
Didn't know about Virtua Fighter Remix port, but I did own (pirate copies, but still, kek) Virtua Fighter 2 and Last Bronx and would play the fuck out of them. Same with both of the Virtua Cop games. Quality stuff. Sega has shown the PC some proper, tender love. I even liked that Sonic 3 & Knuckles port, although I know plenty of people hate it because of the MIDI music.

PS. And I know about the PS2 ports of Virtua Fighter and Last Bronx, part of the Sega Ages series, have them on my PS2's HDD. They're great. Also Nights into Dreams, since I never owned a Saturn and wanted to experience the game - still haven't gotten around to it though, it's in the backlog for now.

DreamMix TV is a bit of a hidden gem, as far as Smash clones go. It has one character from Bloody Roar, Solid Snake, Simon Belmont, Optimus Prime, Megatron, Bomberman, Master Higgins.

>>9615048
>well fighting vipers is pretty cool

I always liked the Sega Saturn port. never really put much time into Fighting Vipers 2, though. Fighters MegaMix was a Saturn exclusive that played like a spin off of Fighting Vipers. The VF2 cast has a partial VF3 moveset (making it like VF2.5), the game has cut VF1 characters like Shiba, has Bean and Bark as hidden characters. Plays like Fighting Vipers.

This is actually less of a fighting game than Smash. Fundamentally, Smash is still a 2D fighting game with emphasis on platforming. Power Stone has that isometric view that feels more like a proper "party game" and doesn't have too many things in common with other more traditional fighters.

Virtua Fighter, of course. I still haven’t played 3 or Kids, but every other one of those games that I’ve tried is great and kinda left me feeling like a moron for writing the series off for so long. We literally wouldn’t have Tekken if it weren’t for one of the brains behind Virtua Fighter. Fighting Vipers, Last Bronx and Fighter’s Megamix are all pretty fun too.
Oh, you should try Soul Edge too if you haven’t already. It’s basically just Soulcalibur without 8-way run.

>Tao Feng: Fist of the Lotus (xbox)
Designed by John Tobias after he split with the MK team, it felt dated and cliché in 2003 and somehow makes the PS2 3D mortal kombat games feel polished.
>Star Wars: Masters of Teräs Käsi (ps1)
Clunky, has completely inconsistent mechanics and often bizarre buttons, with some characters having guns and weapons that only just about function. This piece of shit disregards all of the rules and trends of the genre and it shows, but has a based and massive roster if you're a fan of the IP.
>Deadliest Warrior the Game (xbox live arcade, not /vr/ but also not new)
A rare fighter with absolute no recognisable influence from any other well known 3D fighting game. The animations are mostly dogshit, sound is an afterthought, and the UI designers have probably never player anything resembling a fighting game, but it actually plays pretty well if you can free your brain from the shackles of 'real' fighting games.
>Kakuto Chojin (xbox)
Doesn't quite count was developed by a Japanese subsidiary but published by Microsoft for the og xbox but its definitely worth mentioning because its fucking sick, and it feels western. It also came out in North America first by a long time if I remember correctly.

I'd argue that the GameBoy port is one the best fighting games for the system and the best Takara game out of the bunch, but the 3D original games are all meh. I've played a lot of Battle Arena Toshinden 2 on PC back in the day, but with competitors like FX Fighter it was real easy for it to take the crown. I wouldn't enjoy it nowadays, it's just mediocre. IMHO that is, your mileage may vary.

They offer a lot of replayability though, going all the way back to Soul Edge (Soul Blade) and starting with the Edge Master Mode. Hours of fun finishing various missions (ranging from piss easy to really challenging), collecting new weapons, reading the in-game lore etc. Them games are huugeeeee. I've always liked weapons in fighting games, so it's probably my fav series next to SamSho and Last Blade. Just a shame you couldn't destroy the enemy weapons in SoulCalibur and up, it did add an extra layer of strategy - you'd rely on blocking too much, your weapon would eventually break and you'd be at someone's mercy unless you got really lucky with using the martial arts (you could actually punch, kick and throw without the weapon) alone.

>I'd argue that the GameBoy port is one the best fighting games for the system and the best Takara game out of the bunch, but the 3D original games are all meh.

the GameBoy game also has Super GameBoy support, which added some custom boarders and a splash of colour. It also adds two player mode via a second SNES gamepad.

https://youtu.be/URtTVwNqw6s

I always liked Battle Arena as a franchise. I liked the dopey over the top OVA's and the characters. The original Battle Arena was a spectacle for the PS1 when it was released. It was one of the earliest 3D fighters for the console. It was going up against Virtua Fighter 1 on the Sega Saturn, and made the Sega Saturn look like an inferior machine. Played better? Eh, not really. I remember having fun with the PS1 games, despite the jank. BAT was the original 3D arena weapon based fighter. Soul Edge/ Soul Cali bur was Namco's response to this franchise. Sega's Last Bronx was basically Sega making their own Toshienden.

>> No.9622198

There's also Battle Arena Nitoshinden, which was basically an SD version of Toshinden. It was aimed at a younger audience, has Sonic the Fighters style stretch and squash 3D polygons. This one did come out after Sonic the Fighters. I remember reading about in in GameFan Magazine, back in the day. Never really played it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvmcvUgGYKA

There was also a Virtua Fighter Kids:
https://youtu.be/aLxw1SyknSU?t=169

Which is basically an alt-version of Virtua Fighter 2 with these SD/ big headed characters. the character physics are a little different, so the game does have some variation on VF2.

As a VF2 fan I want to like VF Kids but I can't get over the fact that Sega has cranked the super deformed aspect up to 11. The heads are so big that they make the action look too awkward. Capcom and SNK have nailed their SD characters perfectly in comparison. Super Pocket Fighter or SNK's handheld fighting games look perfect.
