I remember people online praising this game, I had it on my 3ds and found it very lackluster. It just doesn't play very well. None of those game gear games are very good.

>people praising a GG Sonic game
This literally never happens

I've seen it for this game.

The tiny screen real estate and less powerful hardware made it difficult to really make Sonic work on the Game Gear. I kind of enjoyed Triple Trouble anyway, myself, and think it's the closest they came to pulling it off. Sonic Chaos played similarly but felt pretty lackluster. The 8 bit versions of Sonic 1 and 2 are rough either way, but are a bit more bearable on Master System due to the larger resolution (I don't get how anyone could stand that first boss on Game Gear Sonic 2)... good music, though, also slightly better on MS.
Anyway, if you're trying to figure out why people liked Sonic in the years before Sonic Adventure, just play the Genesis games and Sonic CD. If you're trying to find something worth playing on GG, there's GG Aleste, GG Shinobi, Gunstar Heroes, OutRun and the Shining Force games. Ristar is ...okay on Game Gear, but I far prefer the Genesis version.

I love the game gear games. You faggots really need to give this screen shrink meme a rest.

You are saying this as if it's so hard to figure out why. If anything Sonic STOPPED being good after Adventure 2. Well, don't know if the games stopped being good but they surely stopped feeling like Sonic. Mania is the only post-Adventure 2 game that feels like real Sonic but I don't know if it even counts since it's essentialy a fangame

8-bit Sonic appreciation circlejerking happens often enough around /vr/, though granted maybe not about the GG versions specifically.

I agree with screen shrink meme being overdone, but the games just aren't great games on their own merit. They are just meh. The game that gets shit on the most, Sonic Blast is actually fairly decent.

This circlejerk made me try the first SMS game again sometime ago, I didn't really like it but it's a nostalgic game for me. No I'm not from Brazil, just played it a lot through Mega Collection Plus. Shit, now I want to give it another go

Nice, anon. Sonic Mega Collection Plus and Heroes was my first exposure to Sonic,.

Mega Collection Plus is the best video game collection period. Sonic Heroes was my first 3D Sonic experience which probably explains why I don't shit on this game much even though it's complete garbage gameplay-wise

I did call it a "circlejerk" but I do love Koshiro's Sonic myself. In terms of casual pick-up-and-play quality I find it more fun and worthwhile than the 16-bit Sonic games.

Sadly, its best qualities were ignored for the followup games: instead of using the character for a good solid effort taking advantage of what the 8-bit consoles could do best, they made a point of trying to replicate elements from the 16-bit games (speed gimmicks mostly), with mixed but generally awkward results.

I really loved this game, playing as Tails flying around exploring the levels. Never did get all the emeralds. My favorite Sonic outside of the Genesis classics
