My favorite SNES game. Does someone know why the game replaces the mystical forest and comfy Kakariko music one third in though? Space issues maybe? Honestly my only gripe

>> No.9603370

Early SNES, like 1991-1993, is peak soul. As much as I love later games on the system, these early ones felt so...pure? Back when the spectacle was just the fact that there was a larger color palette and random mode 7 effects. It most accurately conveyed "Super" Nintendo.

That was nintendo's fuckery. They wanted all of thier games to be using the same instruments and it didn't change until the latter half of the SNES's run when 3rd party developers started bitching. And then we have Sega with the poorly documented sound system and crappy GEMS driver.

To me it really felt like the first true open world game

Sure the other Zelda's let you explore but this one was alive

> The witch slowly stiring her cauldron while her assistant toils inside
> The mist and rain of the Zora Waterfall area
> The flicker of the firepit from the hobo under the bridge
> The glow of the metal slag the blacksmith is working on

When I was a kid there was nothing I wanted more than to play LTTP with a hot choco and just get lost in the game

What makes it so nice is that it feels robust but is also easy to traverse later in the game when you just want to get from point A to point B. This was a flaw in Link's Awakening since traveling that map was a pain in the ass, constantly making you swap items to cross gaps or move rocks.

In a way yes, but when you have to pick something made by a guy with his own pocket money for years, vs a game made as a cash grab by a team that just didn't want to be working on it, I think you can tell.

ALLTP never grabbed me. I beat it at least twice but I always found it very bland.

Link's Awakening was magical though, and I love the 2 NES games. I probably like 2 better than 1 though.

Then you have the Oracle games and Four Swords, which feels like the technocrat's Zelda: technically great, goes above and beyond the others in terms of both combat and puzzles, but ultimately has a very poor sense of pacing, balance and atmosphere, things true Zelda games excel at.

I also liked OoT, and MM is a steaming pile of shit. Haven't played any others, so my ranking would go like this
