All the gameboy advance sp in my area are like $100+ and they look like they've been used by someone that was deployed in Afghanistan. They aren't even the 101 models either. Wtf is going on? I remember them being way cheaper. I've seen ds and 3ds that are in brand new condition being way cheaper than the gameboys I'm seeing.

Should I just get a ds for the backwards compatibility and homebrew?

DS doesn't play GB/GBC games natively, but it does have very good emulation.
As for GBA playback, it's pretty good. There's a tiny bit more input lag and a little frame stutter but many people don't notice it and it's better than emulation at any rate.
I like the DS mainly for its own library of games because it never "feels right" to emulate the dual screen gimmick.

import one from japan it will most likely work out cheaper than buying locally even with shipping and import fees etc, I get all my consoles from japan.

Watch auctions for a few days something will show up at a good price https://buyee.jp/item/search/category/2084041581?sort=end&order=a&page=1

>> No.9595631

>>9595542
its varies quite a lot depending on the size/weight of what youre ordering and where you are. I live in the uk and we now have a free trade agreement with japan so we dont have to pay any customs or import fees outside of the postage unless its over a certain value. If youre in the EU I think you have to pay 20% vat for the import + extra servicing fees. Most recent thing I have ordered was a set of 13 ps2 games and the postage for those is 4000 yen or 30 usd. I ordered a white ps2 recently the shipping for that was 4500 yen or 25 dollars. I dont remember the exact value but i ordered a set of two fat ps3s and the postage ended up being something crazy like 120 dollars but it still worked out cheaper than buying locally as one was a backwards compatible model. Anime figures on average are about 25 dollars postage when i order those. Although it used to be cheaper before the russia ukraine bullshit. Japan post has a postage service called small air parcel which was very cheap and i think i used to be able to get figures shipped for like 10-15 dollars but they cant fly here anymore because they used to go over ukraine. These are all airmail and it will arrive within a week you can get seamail which is cheaper but takes like 2 months or something so ive never tried it

Good to know, thanks for the informative post. I am in Europe, yes. Just one more question if you don't mind: I saw one or two sellers saying they only accept one kind of payment option (Kanto something I dunno). Will the site handle that, can I pay with my credit card or paypal?

Im not sure about that, i always just use paypal. also one thing when you buy stuff there is an option for shipping insurance on the payment page its 500 yen i always set it to the 0 yen plan and have never had any problems

Hard to resist when you see a bunch of consoles and games in mint condition auctioning for 50 cents from when they did a house cleaning after the home owner died. Of course winning the auction is not a given, there's always some fucker waiting to snipe it at the last minute.

So from my calculations on an order of like 10€, I'll have to pay around 3€ VAT + shipping of around 30-35€ then I'm guessing it's going to be retained at the post and I'll have to pay another 30-40 to release it. Still incredibly cheap compared to scalpers on local ads for what you're getting.

yeah i used to hate that it happened with all my stuff from there before brexit but now it just shows up at my house within a week. all the customs nonsense probably adds like 2 weeks to the shipping time. I dont get why they dont just deliver it to you then send an invoice later instead of holding it hostage

Everything in general is more expensive, "90's kids" have money now and everyone wants a slice of their childhood back. I envy you zoomzooms who only notice the general inflation by checking up the jacked up prices of old toys.

Just bought a pearl blue ags-101 for $90 a few weeks ago at a local auction. It's got light scratches on the outside and flawless inside. There's a stuck pixel, but it's not noticeable in most situations. I was hoping for lower, but I can't complain I guess.

>> No.9597312

I got a 101 early last year for $70 because the back sticker was gone and the seller didn't know what model it was. Here's a pro tip: you can tell by looking at the screen when it's turned off. A light gray color is the 001 while a deep black is the 101. Honestly though I prefer to use my original GBA that I put one of those laminated ITA screens in.
