Overall they are equel. It fucks up the physics of 1 and The Lost Levels but the graphics are amazing. 2 and 3 already looked good on the NES if you ask me so they didn't really improve anything in the remake. So 2 and 3 just look different, still good though

I feel like it's the definitive version of 2/USA, establishing the overall consistent look of the characters. We don't visualize Mario looking anything like the Donkey Kong arcade cabinet art anymore, and up until 2/USA Mario and Luigi were always identical, not the reverse Don Quixote / Sancho Panza they become.

I prefer SMB3 on NES over the SNES version. I prefer SMB1, LL and 2 on the SNES. The new coat of paint on the graphics are nice and interesting, along with the backgrounds.
