Sup. /vr/, I'm in the UK and want to buy some old videogames, but I want the NTSC versions because fuck 50Hz.
Does anyone know what I need to play the American Genesis in the UK? Like, I remember something about a step down converter for the plug because of different electricity and I'd need a TV that could do 60Hz as well, how hard is it to get these things in the UK?

well, googling for my OP image I found this website
http://www.retrogamebase.co.uk/sega-megadrive-1-pal-5060hz-143-p.asp
selling a PAL Megadrive with a 50/60hz switch. If I got this could I just buy an american game, plug it in and go?
Also, still not sure on the TV.

A modded Mega Drive will play all games. Plus any PAL games not optimized for 50Hz will be able to benefit by switching to 60Hz.

The Mega Drive can be modded to be region free but it's a separate mod from adding a 50/60Hz switch. Any PAL games not optimized for 50Hz will be able to benefit by switching to 60Hz.

>a TV that could do 60Hz

You would have to search hard to find one that doesn't.
Not all do NTSC color, though. Go for the Japanese brands.

I wouldn't recommend buying the NTSC versions of games from PAL developers. In some cases, they ran too fast because they were designed to run at 50Hz originally.

The increase in speed is hardly anything. If I can play DMC3 on the hardest setting at 60hz and turbo mode, I'm sure anyone can adapt to a significant increase.

It's equivalent to NTSC>PAL slowdown, but in reverse. So music runs too fast, for example.

Not sure which games are affected, though. I'm not familiar with the Sega library and PAL Sega developers.

The us Sega should have gotten a matte finish too.

I'm pretty sure the single case of a European-developed game not being optimized for 60Hz is Shadow of the Beast. Everything else is fine.
