The second half is a goddamn mess. The endless staircase sequence and the keycard backtracking have made it age 10x worse than any classic RE.

I disagree.

Maybe because i 100% the game a lot as a kid but i don't think the keycard backtracking is egregious, it takes at most like....10 minutes? And the second disc has a lot of great moments, Master Miller's reveal, Vulcan Raven 2nd fight, the Liquid fight, and all of the cutscenes at the Metal Gear hanger, granted stealth took a bit of a beating, but it was what devs would do in those days, first half is hoarding ammo and surviving, and the 2nd half you go full Rambo.

>keycard backtracking
Probably one of the worst missions ever designed in a video game

Then you have no standards like most people since the average IQ is 100. Congrats

MGS2 is the only MGS that's actually a good video game

The real crime is that Kojimbo made a remake and didn't even bother fixing that

For me, it's everything after Raven. Like they were padding out runtime because they had to use 2 discs.
>keycard backtracking
MG2 did it better
>boring metal gear fight with only one working strategy
>boring metal gear fight again but easier
Staircase is fine unless you're trying to kill everyone like a retard.

It didn't age as well as mgs2 but I don't remember the backtracking being a major flaw. It's nowhere near as bad as the first Resident Evil where you have to go to the item box all the fucking time especially as Chris.

I loved euro extreme. But the torture scene is utter bullshit on euro extreme though. It's like no one playtested it.

yea because im sure you arent average at all complaining about this stuff but if you were high iq you would know that those arent things that makes a game badly age.

Never played MGS but I know instinctively not to believe what you say about it. Good job.

Those are just lowpoints the second half couldn't afford, though. It's generally the much weaker half

I never realized it before but the tank hangar really serves no purpose. They can't drive the tanks anywhere but the canyon.

The map is slightly deceptive, as it's pretty hard to make out the B1 and B2 areas of Tank Hangar, plus the different floors of the Nuclear Storage Building.

Don't forget the sniper wolf backtracking. You end up crossing the area between the tank hangar and her boss fight four times.

The key part was fixed, there's a cooling and heating pipe in the Metal Gear hangar that will change the key's type.

Also fixed in The Twin Snakes with a tranq PSG1 in the caves. Wow, what a great addition to the series.

>> No.9579615

what is actually the problem with going back to change the keycard's type? You get to move through the areas very quickly now that you're better at the game and it shows you how far you've come. is it because people don't like the gameplay?

>> No.9579724

>>9579383
Wait Twin Snakes is the only one I played in the last 10 years and the only one I remember and the cards still pissed me off in it (also because of some hole that was nearly impossible to see I fell into). It's even worse in the original?

>> No.9579803

You have to go all the way back to the furnace room and the freezer room for the keys.

>> No.9579959

Actually there is a door in the nuclear warhead storage building (in front of the truck) so it can probably go out there. Otacon says there's a glacier or some shit which is why you have to go the weird way where the first Wolf boss fight is.
