Anyway, it's time for Baseball Stars in which you can optionally play as a team of Japanese softball grils (after entering a secret cheat code). The US release was only two months after it came out in Japan and there don't appear to be any major differences outside text translation.

There was also the mysterious Baseball Stars II which was a US exclusive and seems to have nothing to do with SNK like the first game did.

From the Famicom beat all games challenge. Suggested win condition was 1-2 games versus a 6 team league. I think The Mexican Runner just did "play a single nine inning game" though.

2020 baseball on sega genesis
Little league baseball on NES.

they are just fun to play and intuitive.

given the release dates the text translation was probably done in-house and they kept Japanese names for a lot of the players. it's a little simpler and more arcade-ey than Bases Loaded.

i was going to buy a bases loaded game for xmas but the guy at the game kiosk said baseball stars was way better. he was right. what a fucking bro.

i discovered as a kid you could get a cheap strikeout whenever you needed it by backing the batter off the plate with an inside pitch, then paint the outside corner with a strike, then rinse and repeat for a 3-2 strikeout pitch. the batters didnt reset their position after a pitch so backing them off kept them from getting to an outside strike as long as the pitcher wasnt spent.
