Kai is like the most forgettable MK character ever. He's not even remembered when people are naming the worst characters.
Jarek is only memorable for being in those hilarious endings with Sonya and Jax. He should have just been Kano.
Tanya and Fujin were okay, they've actually been improved in more recent games.
Reiko was intriguing when they insinuated he might be Shao Kahn, then that theory was shot down and he had nothing going for him.
Shinnok just couldn't hold a candle to Shao Kahn as the replacement main villain.
Quan Chi was really the only good one.

I fully admit it, I was in love with Mortal Kombat 4 back when it was new. Just being a Mortal Kombat game was enough to make me love a game back then. Now as an adult however I can see all the issues with it, and why it's one of the weaker titles.

Shinook and Quan Chi are really good MK characters in general. Sneaky filthy necromanchers. Tanya doesn't look like much, sort of plain but her fighting style is fantastic in MKX.

I always thought Kai was interesting, they kind of tried to set him up to become the new Liu Kang lorewise but they did it in such a half-assed way nobody gave a shit. Then in the next game they actually killed off Liu Kang but Kai was nowhere to be found. If they had ever bothered to flesh him out and maybe make him not seem like such a joke he could've been a good character.

Fujin and Tanya were awesome. Reiko's alright too. They obviously got better later one when they were redesigned in the sequels. Kai had a ton of potential but they never used him again. Interesting to see a capoeira fighter in MK.

Nowadays I can see how much of a shitty entry it was.
Never played DA or the other one.
As for the new characters, Quan Chi was the only cool one. Reiko was cool, but played like shit.
