which version of half-life is the best one ?

>> No.9560490

WON, because Steam is bullshit

>> No.9560497

WON just for the menu alone. Why did they change the menu in the later versions? To make it look similar to the ones found in source engine games or something?

good idea. i have one version like that on windows xp.
there must be some Ai changes within the versions. and different details with the surroundings. and textures.

I have a ps2 mouse and keyboard.
Its not as good as the pc version.
I did find a ps2 mouse made for the ps2 and its not the official version. Its not that good. It just looks all glossy and nice.

1.0.1.6 seems to be the best from my testing except for ONE problem. For some reason on my system (software mode on XP), every version of the game other than 1.1.1.0 has this issue where the walls of the trash compactor in Apprehension don't move. Considering that the trash compactor walls are simple func_trains, entities which are used throughout the game, I find it odd that it only occurs for this one instance.

It's worth playing through on both. Hard even enables additional AI behavior, such as the assassin's ability to cloak.

to make it match the early steam ui. as a matter of fact, the steam ui still isn't event based so it wastes a ton of resources.

I downloaded an archive of every HL patch. There are a total of 11 patches for the retail game (why can't Valve ever leave well enough alone?). I think I'll do some testing to see which versions are affected. If anyone needs the patches, you can get them here:

Big one I know is the speed cap, can't move too fast otherwise it slows you down when you touch the ground.

1.1.1.0 (WON) + Xash3D and soundtrack included. If you hate the BlueShift HD models, simply (re)move or rename the 'models' folder within the valve folder and it will use the original ones

Normal is probably more fun. Hard is not bad but you are going to be using explosives for every fight with multiple Marines. If you are not using a weapon that can instakill them (explosives, crossbow, magnum) they just soak up a shit load of ammo. It takes two alt fire double blasts to the head to kill them with the shotgun.

With that said it does make the game more intense and I guess it feels more like how the "real" Gordon Freeman would have to fight them. You definitely have to think more about how you handle encounters and use all of the weapons in your arsenal. I never used satchel charges or the trip mines in Normal but you have to use literally any source of explosives in Hard.
