Nice game but I prefer lament of innocence. The monster evolution system was the star aspect of curse of darkness. The stages and level designs were terrible imo but bosses were decent to keep me engage till the end.

Fucking loved it, I will never forgive the piece of shit netflix adaption for making the chad hector from this game into a bitch boy.

Liked it a lot, the Innocent Devil system was a major upgrade over the Familar system on SOTN. Soundtrack is a banger and the gameplay deep enough to last months playing. Only fault is that Hector walks too damn slow.

it had a lot of problems. fans think that making everything serious, outlandish in its offensiveness, and being dark with one note characters make it cool. it got a few things right but I couldnt even finish the second season. the tone is off.

Yup, I also stopped past the second season. Pacing was horrendous and the plot was trash, I could go on and on about how bad it was. Netflix needs to stop hiring guys who haven't played a video game since 1982 to make their video game adaptions.

The director of the show literally said he hasn't played a video game and only got information on characters from their fanon wiki articles, what a joke.

I know so little about 3D Castlevania having only played most of the Classicvanias and a little bit of the GBA games. The series is growing on me a lot, though. My cousins had Bloodlines as a kid but I never really got into most of the games until now.

Started a playthrough last year and while I've been real slow about getting through it because of life, I'm actually enjoying it more now than way back then. Like yeah, the level design still isn't anything to write home about and I'll always think that it holds both PS2vanias back, but I am honestly loving the crafting and stealing stuff.

Don't know whether I'd put it over LoI or not, and back then I wouldn't, but I tend to find that nowadays, LoI is more frustrating than fun for me, I don't know.

I enjoyed enough.
It had some good ideas, like the item and monster crafting. Pic related added a puzzle element to combat as most stealing could only be done during specific enemy animations. I wish they had replaced the monotonous, antiquated enemy item drop mechanic entirely with stealing.
The main problem is CoD just feels unfinished. As several anons have said the stage design is awful. Most areas are just needlessly large, nearly empty boxes. The first time I played I autistically searched rooms, convinced there had to be SOME kind of secrets. Nope, nothing. Pair that with Hector's slow gait and getting from one place to another becomes a slog.
Trevor mode is fun for a while, but also feels lacking. You can find elemental whips with damage bonuses, but they are just different colors without any flashy effects. As I said in an earlier thread, I'm still triggered that you can't get that nifty "laser" whip.

how different is it from Lament of Innocence?

>> No.9554280

Takes a bit to get started, and moving through the empty maps and corridors can be a slog but once you get into it it's good fun.

Soundtrack is fantastic though.

ellis is a joke and I understand he got metoo'd off the show. if only someone where to make an actual gothic, action/horror without all the stupid anti-religious pandering and shitty stereotypical characters.

Big, empty spaces and really long corridors to pad the game. Had a few things going for it. Castlevania games always do. Also quite grindy.

Uhhh probably upgrading the devils/weapons and enjoying the atmosphere I guess. All of the music is worth hearing too. Mainly don't expect too much of it. Lament is definitely the better game of the two.

It feels like a 3D Igavania. Much more than Lament of Innocence in that respect. People often complain of the big lengthy empty rooms between points of interest but that's pure Igavania. I think its worth checking out, the RPG elements are very nice.

>The monster evolution system was the star aspect of curse of darkness
For me, personally, it was the crafting (synthesis?) system.
Stealing or finding a rare material that lets you make one of a couple weapons/upgrades as your progress through the game adds to the replayability as much as the Innocent Devils'
branching evolutions, in my opinion.
>>9553984
>Hector walks too damn slow
This is true, but it does necessitate that you use the dodge roll to navigate the world, which can become fun when you get the double-roll and try to maintain maximum roll speed while not triggering your second dodge roll (which has a longer cooldown than the first dodge.)

That alone is what one would call "soul" when it comes to videogames. Outside of that I'll still have memories of this, like how cool and challenging Nuculais was, gatling gun farming Amdusias past their paper shields in Dracula's Castle for the materials, farming up Pumpkin forms and hating every second of it, the complete chair room, russian squat dancing Golem, just to name a few.
