It turned out the publisher was paying for good coverage on the Amiga and DOS versions (As they were releasing first) and they all suspiciously gave Rise Of The Robots 90%+ scores. The only Amiga magazine to turn them down had a late review, but gave it 5%. All the console magazines trashed it as well as the copies from Acclaim were also suspiciously late.

Expected a cool ninja action game based on the cover.
It's actually an RPG, a pretty boring and confusing one at that, doesn't help that it was my first ever RPG too.

I also hate this fucking BGM. I spent hours walking around aimlessly on dungeons and that slow, depressing music just made the experience more stressing.

>> No.9564689

I honestly loved this game. Felt different every time I tried to play, and it's a fascinating mix of like an early Final Fantasy / Breath of Fire vibe with permadeath, and Koei's large-scale strategic management from a historical perspective. I remember there was a whole system about how you had to destabilize the economies of various towns so you could storm the castle, all while vying against the clock to visit all the dungeons and unlock your ninja abilities before Nobunaga rose to power (or something like that). Majorly ambitious for an early SNES game.

I know exactly what BGM you're thinking of without clicking. Let me click and see if I'm right.

...

Nope, I was thinking of this one. If there's anything bad about Inindo, it's that the music sounds like it was randomly generated. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6KmZbyftTw

I actually liked the village music, it sounded cheery and peaceful to me, a nice respite from the dungeon music. Battle music wasn't half bad either.

And yeah, there's many complex (interesting, even?) systems at play, but bear I mind I was like 11yo with no prior RPG experience when I tried it, I couldn't make heads or tails of it. No internet, magazine coverage or friends with prior experience either.
