Mega Man if you removed all the platforming elements and just made it into a straight shmup, albeit a really easy, kid-friendly one that doesn't require a turbo controller.

Mega Man if you removed all the shooting elements and just made it into a straight platformer, albeit a really easy, kid-friendly one that doesn't require a turbo controller.

Do these games all use the same engine?

>Shere Khan

Isn't that a Jungle Book character? Is Tail-Spin just a spin-off of that? Is that the bear Baloo?

excuse you that’s Baloo von Bruinwald XIII. he has a flight cap and a yellow shirt and four-fingered hands unlike in The Jungle Book Baloo. completely different characters

>same engine
It triggers my autism when people use this expression about early games. I think a lot of people don't understand that the terminology of "engine" is something that was created in the 90s, and can be very rudimentary when referring to older stuff. But yes, it's extremely obvious that Capcom games were reusing large portions of code. In fact it's safe to assume that a large amount of games in general are reusing code to varying degrees if it's the same dev and system.

We could say framework or architecture if you'd like.

>darkwing duck has Megaman-styled weapons
Cool
>but you can only hold one at a time and once they run out of ammo, they are lost until you pick up another
Not cool.

Finally, a SHMUP I can beat.

Uh how do you not remember Tail Spin?
Spin it
Let's begin it
Bear 'n grin it
When you're in it
You can win it
In a minute
When you spin it, spin it, spin it

Those assumptions are largely overestimated as well. Looking at Capcom NES games, the only thing that is very similar between several games is the sound engine. Even when program code has similarities, it always end up being very different anyway.
No two Mega Man games are alike internally (except perhaps 1 and 2, I never looked at 1) while clueless people assume it's "the mega man engine".

They look easy but furthest I made it in Rescue Rangers was the stage with the giant fans.
