Objectively not a good game, but fun to play with 4 players even though it sucks. The crappy janky animations and corny as hell presentation and music make it really entertaining. The character creator was always fun for inside jokes.

The game is a mess. Extremely non-linear, but the game gives you only a few cryptic hints on how to progress. Very frustrating without a guide. The dungeons are FF II levels of bad, the random encounter rate is ridiculously high in some places and on top of that, the battle difficulty is all over the place, ranging from piss easy to fucking hard.
I really don't know why I like this game, but I somehow do. It's a very creative title with some good music but the execution is just terrible.

I grew up with Ariel: The Little Mermaid for my SEGA Genesis, and while I could never beat it as a kid, I still went back to it from time to time, there was just something about it that captivated me. I did give it another shot many years later, after finally getting into emulation and replaying the classics I grew up with, which I hand't played in years due to my console not working anymore, and while it didn't impress me, and I actually found it to be quite clunky, I went through the effort of beating it on the hardest setting with both Ariel and King Triton, it was fun, as basic as everything in it actually is. What I struggle with the most is how Ariel/King Triton controls, as it feels like the water is pushing them constantly, it doesn't feel responsive or fluid whatsoever, regardless of how it might be realistic in a way, I also feel the hit boxes needed some work, Ariel/King Triton's attack needed to be more effective, and they desperately needed more invincibility frames... the 1st and especially the 3rd level are both fun, and the reason I go back to this sometimes, the problem is in the 2nd and 4 level, which can both be a chore due to the shortcomings I've mentioned here.

>> No.9557975

I would say so. The game controls fine, but it has bad level design and the weird nightmare mechanic that's always fascinated me. Music's great too. It's probably my 3rd most played X game aside from 1 and 4. X7 is just an almost unplayable trainwreck that makes it look great by comparison.

it's extremely rare for a sonic game to have a bad OST. The only one that comes to mind is Chronicles, the shitty RPG that Bioware made. Apparently they had to throw out the music and get something working ASAP at the last minute.

One of the first games I played. It's a mediocre action platformer with very basic gameplay and graphics, and yet it's pretty charming overall, above all the music. It's also quite easy on the whole, although the last boss can be pretty bullshit. My favorite level was always the submarine one since you can blow up the terrain, so I used to spend a long time there blowing everything up and getting the occasional item.

Also, the ending is fucking hilarious. Tell me what Pero's doing here isn't what it looks like:

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters (GB/1998) is one of my favorite video games of all time, and one that I've played more than anybody ever should considering how little depth it actually has, and how ludicrous some decisions by Konami regarding its design were. A few things got me into this, the 1st is that an English translation came out in the last few years and gave me a chance to finally play it, this was the most crucial reason by far, because otherwise I'd have never even attempted to play it, the other reason is that this is historic for the Yu-Gi-Oh! OCG and TCG, since it essentially gave Konami the license for it and was used as the basis for the original rulesets. A lot of things about it are ridiculous, for example, do you want to get a Blue-Eyes White Dragon? Simple, just beat Kaiba... a 100 times, do you want a Red-Eyes B. Dragon? Simple, just beat Joey... a 100 times. You do get a card every 10 wins for each duelist, but the best ones require 100 wins... and I did it for about 5 or 6 of them, to get the cards I wanted, why? Well, this is the closest that we'll ever get to a Duelist Kingdom RPG, and it was my favorite arc, so its won me over for that reason alone, and kept me playing. Also, the artwork is incredible for the hardware and resolution.

this design is just like the one Toei uses for their splash in movies. That isn't adapted from one of Toei's animations, is it? I could see them just using a character as a mascot.

>> No.9560363

it's cool but nonsensical and hard to understand. I think people are attracted to it because it's weird, it's pretty, and it is by a famous square designer.

That said, I do wish it had an art book. I think it just flopped too hard because as far as I can tell, nothing published has the original artwork that they made the cards from, so you're just stuck with low-res sprites.

On the other hand, Hataraku Chocobo is a popular title (at least in name) for western fans, but it seems like once you get past the artwork, the reality is that it's just a single-player kiddie's first M.U.L.E.

>>9560337
Surprised that a fan wouldn't try doing a DK RPG in the modern era. Might not even appeal to new players though. I remember when the original series was running but I don't know if people really want that gameplay back.

>>9560363

Oh, and another thing: this game, funnily enough, only came out in North America, even though the films didn't make much of a splash there at the time. There was an earlier, similar-ish game on the Famicom, though. Also, I messed up, it's actually based primarily on the third film.

Lego rock raiders ps1 version, it looks awful and confusing, but if you can get past that and take second to look&get used at the controls(especially driving as up on d-pad is gas, down is reverse and left/right rotates), its still mediocre game(with awfully long loading times on real ps1+disc), but I like the wasteland feel it has, plus the awesome soundtrack.

KQ2 really is not good and breaks all the laws of story-structure.

>Sonic 3D Blast
Saturn version is pretty good, it's a flawed experiment but I find it intriguing
>Three Stooges on the NES
I love the show and this game had a really interesting development, plus it's not bad as a mini-game collection.
>Jaws on the NES
When evaluated as an arcade style game with a map, it's pretty fun.
>Nightmare on Elm Street on the NES
4 player option? Solid platforming? Interesting concepts taken form the third movie? I'm thinking it's based.
>Dynowarz on the NES
Brilliant concept, solid game play needs more love.
>Mighty Bomb Jack on the NES
Pretty dense and addictive once you get the hang of the controls.
>Top Gun on the NES
So what if you suck at landing, this one is pretty relaxing and fairly impressive for its time.
>Double Dragon V on the Genesis
The Saturday Morning Watchmen of video games, pretty funny and encapsulates the 90s well.
>Techno Cop on the Genesis
Awful game play, bland presentation, but once the silence kicks in and you are gunning down thugs, it gets eerie. It feels like your playing through the last scene in Taxi Driver meets Laser Blast.
>Shaq Fu on Sega Genesis
The Black Belt Jones of video games is here, horrible concept but the art direction and presentation is top-notch. Game play is ehh but it is playable.
>Generations Lost on the Genesis
Flashback and X-Men rip-off with homoerotic cover art, still an oddly fascinating game with a fun Bionic Commando style grappling hook. Intriguing development history to say the least.
>Pit-Fighter on the Genesis/Arcade
Awful SNES port aside, Pit Fighter is prime slop, it's a cocaine fueled nightmare that deserves praise for the tone.
>Mr. Nutz on SNES/Genesis
Not a complicated game, but it has so much soul I can't help but love it and admire the craftsmanship that went into it. Also there were only like 3 people working on this under-budget oddity.
