The horror part of Home Alone comes from Kevin himself. Rambo would have been proud of some of those death traps.

HA1 is fine enough but the trap sequence in 2 is a legit slasher flick. It begins with him throwing FOUR fucking bricks at a guy's forehead from the top of a house and it just gets worse from there. Doesn't help that the setting is some dark and dilapidated building in NY instead of Kevin's home in the suburbs.

NTA but you can die, you need to find safe spots and manage resources strategically, and, tongue-in-cheek or not, it's intended to have jumpscares and creepy moments. I still get nervous about scrolling the kitchen until Edna pops out and comes after you

>> No.9527568

>>9527398
the creep factor is debatable but i wouldn't call running from Edna once or twice and staying out of ed's way while he gets the mail to consider them some kind of "pursuer" enemies

>> No.9527573

>>9527568
plus you only really die from doing stupid shit like drowning in the pool or blowing up ed's hamster. edna and ed just throw you in the dungeon which is a joke to get out of

wasn't a whole lot else back in the 80s. Hugo's House of Horrors was released a bit later in '90, i guess that is somewhat survival horror, horror theme and you need to survive navigating the house. The first survival horror game was Sweet Home in '89 according to wikipedia, i never played it though

This game is so fucking great. As much as I love Day of the Tentacle, I can't help but feel making a sequel to Maniac Mansion as just a wacky cartoon adventure with no horror elements was a missed opportunity.
