That's where the name came from, but not the idea of martial artists shooting energy out of their hands, which is ancient and has been in Chinese films for a century by now, and is obviously where a lot of Japs took it from, from Yuyu Hakusho to Naruto.

As a kid, i assumed all energy moves were just punching really hard. As in, if you were as strong as these nigs, a "fireball" or wind blast or something was you just punching with such force that you were generating air flow like flapping a piece of paper as a fan and so you were launching intense wind powered by launching your fist out really fast so it could hurt somebody. I also believed similarly that it was absolutely possible to do a double jump in real life, you just had to jump then jump hard enough in the air that you push off of the air beneath you generated from kicking wind downward thats hitting the ground and pushing you up. I literally spent time trying to do this. I may have been retarded, but my friend believed you could indeed fly like dragon ball if you were intense enough and concentrated.

I still pronounce it "Rye-Yu" without trying. Tried saying it properly, but it's too ingrained in my mind. Weirdly I don't have this issue with Ryu in Breath of Fire.

I also pronounce Sagat like Bob Sagat, and Zangief as "Zan-Jiff." Those ones I have less trouble using the proper pronunciations, but I still have to force it a bit. And if I'm talking to my brothers who grew up saying the names the same way, I feel like I'm putting on airs trying to say it properly.

Kinda silly though when the games have voices saying the names.
