Majora's Mask has an awesome concept. The world is hauntingly moody and even basic stuff like the buildings in Clock Town have a really off-kilter aesthetic that you don't find anywhere else. The personalities of the characters are really memorable, and stick out like a darkly proto-animal crossing. The time limit is a really unique idea.

But the game gets bogged down in slow-gameplay drudgery. Waiting for characters and time-of-day events. Annoying stuff like the powder keg mission - the games clunky controls being put to the test, and if you screw up it's another boring few minutes hobbling forwards as the Goron. The game is full of cool ideas that take a long time to do because the game system isn't really designed around them,

Ocarina blows it out of the water from a gameplay pacing perspective. :)

I'd rather add a little exposition for each. I'd like to see the same from other anons if you can spare the time, bare lists are boring.

>First
Adventure of Link: rented it by chance the first time a friend loaned me his NES.
>Favorite
Majora's Mask: great high concept for both story and gameplay, and the subquests actually trump the main content.
>Least Favorite
Minish Cap: too generic and the concept is wasted on a 2D game.
>Track
The Windmill/Song of Storms track in OoT, or maybe the WW overworld/sailing music: they're just neat.
>Item
Mirror Shield: it's a good idea for a 3D gameplay-item and it's cool there's both puzzle-solving and battle applications.
>Character
Happy Mask Salesman: nothing about his appearance, characterization, and role fails to be iconic.
>Enemy
AoL Iron Knuckles; they encapsulate the game's best and worst qualities.

>Extra: Favorite Dungeon
Spirit Temple: best balance of a good unique concept and general old-school dungeon trappings.

MM is a not particularly rare example of something very idiosyncratic in which what people hate about it is exactly what other people love. From a mainstream flagship franchise's perspective it was a weird gamble, but it's great at some point something like it could be made at all, and it's no wonder it became a cult classic.

The degree of dedication you had to put in to stakeout places and shadow characters until you pieced everything together was what made it so immersive and satisfying. Finally completing the Kafei/Anjou Quest after many loops of investigation, trial and error is one of the most memorable experiences I remember related to any videogame, and it's not even something you need to do to "beat" the game.

The 3DS remake's revamping of the Save system, and the Bomber's notebook in which you're literally given specific times and places were huge letdowns. It's a bit sad it will become the first and only way many people will get to experience one of the best games ever made. The ironic implication is that Aonuma himself clearly didn't quite understand what about the original game resonated with the players who liked it; and thus the remake became something that people who didn't like the original would find simply tolerable at best, and the rest would be sure to hate.

I know right? It started in 1986 and there hasn't been a single objectively bad game ever since. And it's still as popular as ever. All of the legends fell off except for maybe Dragon Quest. Even Resident Evil had a couple of shit games after 5 with 7 and 8 being not for everyone. As a longtime fan of the series I don't like them. But man Zelda is something else

I remember running through HF in Ocarina for the first time and realizing the sun was setting, with that cheesy early 3D game lens flare popping up and everything. I know the effect was old news when the game came out but for me it was great "new generation" moment.

Ocarina of Time
The Wind Waker
Perhaps Oracle of Seasons, as I never finished it
I don't have any one favorite, but Saria's Song, Epona's Song, and the Song of Storms are beloved in my family
I really like the Longshot
Aside from Link himself, I think Ganondorf is a really cool and interesting guy from his OoT through TWW and TP iterations. King Daphnes also feels like a good character who properly has the weight of the world on his shoulders, along with self-reflection and regrets.
The Darknuts are pretty fun to fight, and I count the Iron Knuckles among them.

Seeing Ganon's castle in OoT for the first time was pretty hectic. I had played the game a bunch as a little kid and not gotten to the adult section, and when I was 13 or so, decided I would beat the game - seeing Hyrule castle, which is a bit I had done many times, completely owned by Ganondorf was actually a shock!

Yeah well games of this era are still essentially pre-internet, and the expectation that kids would sit there and endlessly tinker with the games they got (if they were built decently) was pretty much a given. Even my adult attention span is pretty wrecked from the internet...
