Anyone that thinks this game is shit is a retard, and I can't take you seriously.
If you don't like it that totally fine. You don't have to enjoy the game.
But calling it shit implies it is bad. Which implies you have no brain cells.

And this goes for any truly popular and great game. I don't like Doom, but it is clearly a masterpiece and great game.

One the one hand, yes, they blatantly reused every fucking room of the entire castle layout. It's gimmicky for sure

But on the other hand, even though the layout is mirrored the way you play through it is not. You had to unlock the regular castle one area at a time through exploration and backtracking, the inverted castle is completely open from the beginning, you know the layout already and with all the powerups you navigate through it rapidly. It's not about exploration anymore. The inverted castle is just there as an arena for the additional boss fights and a place to find cool new items.

And honestly, why complain about that? If the game just took us straight from the top of the regular castle into the Dracula fight and ended there most people would have been fine with it. More bosses and items is just icing on the cake

I think it's more that the Inverted Castle can be a bit annoying to explore compared to the main castle and not a lot of people know that if you just defeat the specific bosses you can basically get just what you mentioned as getting all of Dracula's remains and going to the center once you know what you're doing becomes really easy to do.

I think it is related to how people dread aLttP's dark world and FF 6's post apocalyptic world too. There is some sense of progression at first due to plot and structured exploration. When you get that out of the picture, everything feels lukewarm at best. For that reason some people dislike openworlds too. You can do everything, yet there is no reason to.

Bruh, I don’t disagree with a word you said, but the biggest problem with the game is the double tap to run. There is literally never a time where you wouldn’t want to run, just make him run by default, and I would have enjoyed the game much more. Instead I got finger callouses from that shit.

I'm honestly okay with the inverted castle, and think the novelty of reexploring a game world upside down is kind of fun

My real issue is how poorly balanced it is, or honestly the game in general. I played it for the first time earlier this year and once I got to the inverted castle I was absolutely melting bosses within <10 seconds. And I didn't have any crazy drops or levels or anything

Kind of stifles the fun when all of the cool boss designs only get a few seconds of screen time

no one really praises SotN for the challenge. It's easy as shit, but the atmosphere and visuals are 10/10 kino and frankly, modern games still struggle to match the art design. SotN is proof that technologically advanced graphics don't improve a game at all.

>> No.9488965

the unfortunate thing is that the system could have been a solution to one of the biggest issues of metroidlikes, that being collectables are largely boring stat upgrades. unfortunately instead of using it to incentivize exploration it incentivizes the least fun aspect of the game. other issue is circle's environmental interaction being so limited that secrets aren't all that enjoyable to find, mostly just wall spam and using one of your powers interchangeably.

Bloodstained is shit-ugly and has a terrible story but still a great game that builds on SotN. All the other SotN-like Castlevanias have their own flaws or quirks:
>Circle of the Moon: pretty good but has a weird power system and pretty shitty upgrades if I remember right, controls kind of weirdly
>Portrait of Ruin: levels are separate from the
main castle, I found them to be kind of lacking; character-switching gimmick is at least fun and different
Harmony of Dissonance: dumb DS touchscreen gimmicks, can at least be modded out
Order of Ecclesia: most of the game is pure shit, but once you get to Drac's castle its great but that's only like the last 25 % of the game.

>>9487535
The jank is definitely present, but the game is still a ton of fun outside of a few areas and aesthetically excellent. If you like Castlevania absolutely don't get memed into skipping it.

If you are looking to continue with the old Castlevania games Portrait of Ruin is my personal fav but Dawn of Sorrow is good too. Order of Ecclesia is different and I didn't like it as much but a lot of people swear by it. Because of their duel screen nature, I bought a cheap DS Lite and R4 card to play these.

I would also take a look at reviews / trailers of some of the newer metroidvania's out there. Hollow Knight, Ori, Ender Lilies, Touhou Luna Nights, Ghost Song, Minoria, Blasphemous, Bloodstained, Monster Boy, Deedlit... there is a lot of them and they are usually pretty cheap. I am loving the metroidvania renaissance.

Sorta, probably not intentionally, but the fact that it emphasizes more on platforming and using the new abilities to traverse, really help by that point.

I will admit the idea wasn't fully realized tough, it has legitimate blemishes, many people of course focus on the overusing of Finale Toccata, filling the map with the mist or wolf in the reverse caverns because they should remap the level design of that part, and that some areas are optional but ultimately pointless, like there really is no reason to go to the reverse castle entrance.

My idea to fix this is to have the last transformation upgrade, the poison mist, NOT be after beating Galamoth, but instead put it in the reverse castle entrance, maybe even fixing and making the unused secret passage (for the unfinished area that was a wet fart on the saturn port), instead of having a pointless save point there, have special items there, and in the reverse castle, you get the Poison Mist there.

Alucard's true weaponry can be hidden better around the castle, have something interesting in the reverse library instead like a switch that opens the secret door at the reverse entrance castle.

That to me seems to be the biggest issue with the reverse castle, mediocre distribution of lut, the actual traversing aint much of an issue, maybe not with the wolf no more due to the main terrain being less flat, but the Wing Smash definitively aids a lot, i would have an upgrade to the wing smash that makes it last longer, but then again you can actually keep repeating it with good timing, while the saturn port actually keeps it goin until you run out of magic or crash to a solid vertical wall

Hell why not having access to all the teleporters unlocked so you can really explore more easier the reverse castle.

I still take it over Aria and Dawn ''true final areas'' and HoD lazy ''dual castles'' which are mostly the same aside from a few rooms having different design layouts.

Aren't Shaft and Dracula the only bosses immune to poison mist? It's probably the biggest gamebreaker next to the Crissaegrim, not that there's no shortage of ways to break it.

Seems like the whole point of the relic is to be a reward for finding the hidden Kid Dracula callback area and defeating (what's supposed to be) a harder boss than even Dracula, and by then you're expected to have defeated all other bosses.

I still like inverted castle a lot. I mean, fully and completely free exploration?
More emphasis in jumping around and looking ways to fill the map?
Harder and more varied enemies?
New bosses to try all these weapons and spells you are getting?
What's to hate?

Imo, alucart luck mode is the only way to truly enjoy the experience, but it is still great

i wouldn't go so far as to say it's recycled, although whenever i play this game i imagine what could've been done if they'd made a completely separate castle with totally different puzzles, or found a way to do a dark world/light world thing like LttP where you'd have to switch between castles to solve puzzles.

i'd also say the game is still too short. it's too bad you don't get much of a chance to use the game's weirder weapons/items/equipment. and that once you have the shield rod and the alucard shield, the game's pretty much over unless you deliberately avoid using it.
