Call of Duty 3
Is there anyway to play this game online/multiplayer without having to buy a xbox 360?
Used to play the crap out of this game as a kid and really want to play it again online or even just the campaign.

PS3? Looks like it came out on both gen consoles but I’m not sure the difference. No PC release for a CoD game now that’s surprising.

yeah or ps3, thinking xbox 360 just because i still have all my xbox 360 games from back in the day and no ps3 games.

>> No.9486890

PS3 had a lot more issues with games overall, so without any research I'd defer to the 360 version. Did Skyrim ever actually work on the PS3?

really? weird...i never had a ps3 so wouldnt know

I 100%'d Skyrim on PS3 back in the day. It was fairly painful and at some point the savefile was too big so loading times were awful.

>> No.9487008

I recall being able to play this online on PS3 relatively recently, maybe 2016 to as late as 2018. Like they forgot to switch off the servers or something.

well i watched a video on youtube recently, filmed in like 2021 and he was able to play with multiplayer on xbox 360...although the lobby was only 2v2....
actually if i remember right...on the tail end of xbox 360, possibly after even one came out, i remember trying to play cod3 and it was just full of bots.
but yeah that is odd that the servers are still on possibly lol

Weaker GPU/unnecessary Cell complexity and Sony having a slow start to the generation meant most western multiplats were better on Xbox.

It's backwards compatible on Xbone/Series X if that counts as not buying a 360

wait, i do have a xbox x, its available there?

Yes. If you have a disc just put it in and it will download. If you don't you can buy it digitally or go scrounging at your favorite used games store

i have a disc but xbox x is digital only....

it was the first non-spinoff COD game by treyarch which at the time was better know for their spiderman games and the console versions of call of duty (i.e. finest hour & big red one) because infinity ward was still working on COD4 (which at the time of development was considered the "real" COD3 internally).

>> No.9488580

I only played the original Xbox version.

I fuckin played this in August on PS3. The online works but nobody is playing it, I managed to get in to a couple of matches but other than that nothing. Decent campaign tho, definitely lost in the memory of COD games.

Oh and Also MW4 and WAW also still have active multiplayer server on PS3, as well as Black Ops 1.

Skyrim worked it just had shitty load times. Between that and being worse than Oblivion in general I barely ended up playing it.

It is easy to find PS2 online community
Some games require only DNS bypass or replacement which means that you have to manually set it.
I think COD2: BRO and MOH: Rising Sun and PS2 online disc allow that.
Just do little search online. I would love to see small weekend community to grow here.
I remember reading that after DNS bypass COD3 connects to original servers.

CoD2 was primarily a PC game with an Xbox 360 port. It's likely the older consoles simply couldn't handle it/porting would be too much hassle to be profitable. CoD1 never got a console port (except the NGage, weirdly) until much later for that reason, hence the spinoff Finest Hour. The older consoles got The Big Red One instead of the real CoD2.
CoD3 was developed exclusively for consoles, so it could be designed around the older systems' limitations.

>> No.9491662

>>9491646
360 port 2 is better than PC. inb4 kb+m. I know, but graphically there is a big difference.

>> No.9491674

>>9491354
Big Red One was made by the guys behind United Offensive and RtCW, before the full transformation into team that made 3, WaW, WaWFF and BO series. Make of that what you will.
Finest Hour is alright, but nothing special.

oh series s my bad...the smaller digital only one.

>> No.9491749

>>9491662
how exactly? the console version has lower res textures, models, and is sub HD. it's not bad looking for a 360 game and runs fine.

>> No.9491763

>>9491749
I wouldn't say 360 is the better version, but like a lot of early 360 games it had certain things improved on it compared to PC version I think. Like Most Wanted. Given FPS, Res, and Mouse PC is still better.
