Okay, now, on to the details that we knew so far for the Doom II Tournament that is going to take place at Quakecon

It's an elimination tournament of 128 participants, ODAMEX will be used for the competition, and it's a first come, first serve. For this tournament you NEED (or needed) to be present at the event so they could attend you and assign you a place in the FFA eliminatories. AND you should've been registered as a QuakeCon 2013 General Attendee in order to enter to any of the three tourneys.

https://registration.quakecon.org/?page=registration

The thing is, online registrations were just closed a few hours ago, but don't worry, you still have a chance to get in, by just registering onsite (that means, dragging your ass to Quakecon, of course)

If you want to check the full details regarding the rules, go here and Right Click -> Save As on the 20th Anniversary Doom Challenge PDF file
http://www.quakecon.org/competitions/official/

Now, the second (and most important thing you may have been wondering, aside from the source port that would be used, heh) is

>For those who won't be able to assist to Qcon, HOW the fuck are we going to be able to watch the tourney?

...Well, here's the deal. By checking a few pages (most specifically, two Doomworld threads), I got notice that, aside from the finals being shown on the official Quakecon streams, we won't be able to watch the full tourney.

HOWEVER, it seems that some individuals involved in the International Doom League (IDL) will cover the tournaments via streams, not sure if they will showcase the matches directly or just narrate them, but we need to stay alert for any updates regarding that.

http://www.doomworld.com/vb/post/1186515

Anything, and I mean, ANYTHING that might help us to know more about this subject, PLEASE let us know. Drop by the IRC or leave a message in this thread if you find about something.

I'm pretty much a die-hard Queen fan (as a matter of fact one of my stupid Doom modding dreams is to create a deathmatch WAD inspired by their songs) and I've never heard any resemblence of any of the death sounds in Doom with the beginning of any Queen song.

zandronum comes with the server executable, and doomseeker has a gui-based server command line generator if you don't know how to set DMflags, maprot, etc by heart.

after that, its as simple as running any pre-made server cmd you've crafted, and keeping uptime. I guess there's also things like reading zandro's wiki and learning the console and how to into rcon, but it's seriously not hard.

tl;dr doomseeker makes it easy + read the wiki for whatever platform you're going for...

I wouldn't really know. I mean, ID practically stopped making games like Doom 1 and 2 after Doom 3, and their most recent release was RAGE, so I wouldn't hold my breath. However, I'm starting to think that if the new Rise of the Triad gets enough good reception, that ID will return to their roots with Doom 4. To make a game that moddable right out of the box would be to make it an open source project from the get-go. And there's no chance in hell that ID would ever do that until years down the road.

Would be neat to see Steam Workshop levels though.

The general consensus I've heard is the balance and pacing. A lot of the weapons feel totally different from vanilla doom. The assault rifle kicks ass right from the get-go, where as the pistol is a shitty little pea shooter.
As for pacing, there's the whole reloading thing, having to stop and reload kinda breaks the flow of doom a bit, as well as stopping to watch the execution stuff. Then there's also iron sights on the Assault Rifle, and the Shotgun, which don't really serve any purpose at all, aside from making the aiming a bit "Fine", and zooming in a bit, it's not like CoD where using sights is mandatory for use the guns accurately. Some people also dislike the amount of blood and guts, as well as being blinded by particle effects.

The short and sweet of it is that it's a too different from the regular doom formula for some people, which is totally understandable, and it does really bother me that Brutal Doom gets so much attention that other wads are shadowed by it.

Not him, but...

There are "sub-wads" to Brutal Doom that remove the reloading, screen effects, rifle, and a sizable amount of blood. I do have an issue with buffing some of the enemies, however. Take the Cacodemon as an example, it is now able to swipe to the side and avoid your attacks, which is a problem in open environments. It also fires its projectiles much faster, which makes them more problematic than they should be when there is a whole load of them (see tricks and traps), and they bite even faster IIRC, which is an issue when you're teleported in between two of them in the downtown/city level of Doom 2. Revenants are also more annoying than ever with heat-seeking rockets. Barons are impossible to avoid taking damage from whilst in tight corridors thanks to their triple-fireball attack thingy. The BFG can kill you, which practically destroys the possibility of employing the tactic of using the cone of death to kill enemies as you expose yourself. All these, and some other issues like massive blood piles dropping framerates or obscuring switches get on my nerves. Don't get me wrong, I love Brutal Doom. In fact, I had to deal with little of those issues when playing it on Doom 1. Those problems are always highlighted in Doom 2, where almost everything is a trap. And yeah, I do find that Brutal Doom does overshadow other good gameplay mods.

>> No.950608

>>950603
Like many other wads, you need to find a right map, or right set of maps to play it on. I found Brutal Doom to be very enjoyable on Doom 2 Reloaded, for example. The framerate drop does get annoying. I'm only playing on a $500 laptop, which by now is few years old. I just can't play on some maps with brutal doom, like vanilla sky, I get framerate issues right off the bat.

Hey /vr/, last night in Kiwifag time I made a solo Samsara roll chart for these threads, and I want to know how I can improve it.

I was thinking of using the hundreds digit as to decide which Megawad (or any PWAD in general) should be played if a 9 is rolled, though I don't know that many of them. Alternately I could make an optional bot DM/CTF/Duel/etc roll table, but I want to keep things simple whilst utilizing the last three digits.

What do?

I've played a number of first-person dungeon crawls, and Doom RPG isn't exactly a favorite. It's somehow really clunky and ugly despite being much newer and on much newer hardware than many similar games I have played. I know that it was first made for phones, but even then I've seen some phone games that make it look like a turd. I don't mean to harp on the graphics so much, as I really didn't enjoy the gameplay much either, I'm just pointing out that the visuals really turned me off.

Load either of these as PWADs (The D2 one might work with D1, but frankly I don't care) with any source port and watch all those swastikas and nazis pop right back in, and the pills on the medkits disappear and be replaced with the proper symbol. Just fired up Primary: Gold.

So I go up the ramp on the other end of the first room, and I see this giant gaping hole leading down. In terms of the Doom engine, this is freaking cool.

Is this what they call "room-over-room"?

How was this done? Using ZDOOM's 3D Floors maybe?

Move Forward/Backward - W/S
Strafe Left/Right - A/D
Previous/Next Weapon - 2/3
Use - F
Item Left/Right - Q/E
Use Item/Reload (if necessary in mod) - T/R
Crouch/Jump(if necessary in a mod) - C(or shift)/SPACE
Use mouse to fire primary with left mouse button (and secondary with right mouse button if necessary), change weapons with mousewheel (if you want, I shift between the two ways to change weapons often by accident, so I just keep them both assigned for the same purpose), and turn.
Turn "Autorun" on.
Personal advice:
Turn freelook off for maps not meant to make use of freelook.
Don't assign jump or crouch a key for maps not meant to make use of jumping or crouching.

Or, you know, you could stop being a lazy faggot and configure your controls to YOUR liking. That is kind of the whole point of being able to customize it in the first place.

Does anyone have any experience with WiiDoom? I'm trying to give my little bro the best game ever, and I'm having a little trouble.

1) I see "e1m1.mp3" etc. in the .cfg file; can I put the music in the folder as audio files and have it play in the game. If so, where exactly do I put them, and will it take other formats?

2) The run button doesn't seem to do anything. On the Wiimote it has analog movement and aiming, so there's no need for a run button, but it's nigh impossible to aim with that thing. With the Gamecube controller I can't run or turn quickly.

I know you guys aren't tech help, but I can't find anything on Google, and this seems like the next best place to ask.

I think you're better off exposing him to doom some other way, just tried the WiiDoom, it's got a smooth framerate but that's all its got going for it really. doesnt seem like there is a way to increase turn speed. hasn't been updated since 2010 either, so I don't think those problems are going to be solved anytime soon. is the Wii the only console he has or does he have anything else that can run a version of Doom?

>> No.956742

>>956725
Eh, I'm letting him use my old softmodded fat PS2, but PS2 Doom doesn't have music either, and you HAVE to strafe with the right stick and turn with the left. Can't even use the D-pad and shoulders like the PSX.

Burned PSX Doom has never worked for me in a modded console at all. It hangs on the first loading screen every time.

Do you know if mp3 music works on Wiidoom? I haven't found any real evidence online that it does, but the .cfg file definitely has references to .mp3s for each map. and the google code page has this:

// cournia - support for arbitrary music file (defaults are mp3)
{"Music", {NULL},{0},UL,UL,def_none,ss_none},
{"mus_e1m1", {0,&S_music_files[mus_e1m1]}, {0,"e1m1.mp3"},UL,UL,

Sorry, I can't help you on the mp3 thing. I suppose a last ditch solution would be to download a Genesis or SNES emulator and play the 32X or SNES versions of the game.

since the PSX doom is the best console version, it sucks that it doesn't work on your ps2. do any other burned game disks work on it, and doom is the only one that doesn't work?

Literally every other game with a good ISO works. PSX Doom has NEVER worked on a CD-R for me in ANY console. I've tried like three different modded PS2s and the swap trick on an unmodded PS1, all of which ran other burned games fine. Emulators have no problem with the ISO. I wonder if the only version floating around is just a bad rip or if there's some kind of game-specific copy protection.

I don't believe the Wii has a 32x emu, and in my opinion the SNES version is probably the second worst port next to the 32x.

If I'm reading this correctly, jkist is in the finals and devastation will be playing demonsphere in the loser's bracket for the other slot. That is, if this is up-to-date. The schedule said only the FFA feeders would be played yesterday and they already did the bracket games, so what do we know aside from that their organization and coverage of this tournament is horseshit

It's really going to come down to jkist vs devastation though, and I'm expecting it to be good so I hope they at least stream the finals

Reused stuff or not, Real667 still is the top place to look for Doom resources, even if you don't happen to like the staff on a personal level.

About ZDoom-packed wads, I don't have any concern as long as they know how to use those tools in a successful way. Some people may not have liked what KDiZD was in terms of being a complete reimagination of Ep.1, yet I need to see their reactions to what ZDCMP2 is, which by the way, in my humble opinion, is the epitome of the source port being pushed to its maximum without being restricted to a concept or something

That said:

I use the WADs that I got from the ID Super Pack a few years back for Doomsday/GZDoom.

Doomsday is primarily used for Heretic and Hexen while I float between the two for Doom. A already played Doom 3 when it was new on the Xbox because I was a console gamer at the time.

No, a lot of people here hate brutal doom. I personally really enjoy it. I can understand why people would dislike it though.
After playing vanilla style for so long, I'm more than welcome to play something different, and Brutal Doom is what I use most often. I really like the silly amount of blood and guts, the chunky feeling weapons, the large variety of ways to kill enemies, and I even like the executions. Spouting one-liners from the doom comic is fun too. Though I still enjoy vanilla every once and awhile still.

It's definitely a You Love It or You Hate It wad.

Anyways, I'm having an issue. Got Knee Deep In ZDoom, tried to start it, but get an odd error:

I think many doomers are kind of tired of some of the same old cliche' tactics.

It's nice to now and then grab a megasphere, or a megaarmor, or a good gun or a key and nothing happens, you just get it and go.
>walls come down
>monsters appear

Is fine now and then, but when it's every item, every key......no, it's lame.

>>959303
I'd echo these comments, I like to try different things doom (but always come back to Vanilla), new mods, new guns, new monsters, even remastered music.

Though there are two types of people I really cant like and can never get over. I also liked Russian Overkill.

- People that demand every map/wad work with Brutal or they think it's crap

- Purist retards who think that if you use 1 extra gun or a couple of monsters or do anything at all outside outside bog standard vanilla doom everything, then it's not doom and they make endless passive aggressive whiney comments about "oh yeah, you can play that way.....it's just wrong....but that's cool"

The latter group is worse because it's far, far bigger.

> People that demand every map/wad work with Brutal or they think it's crap

It's a bit annoying when I can't play a good map/wad with brutal doom, but it's not big deal. As an alternative I just stick on beautiful doom weapons and objects with the modified ketchup wad. May not play the same as brutal doom, but I still get all the ejected bullet casings and meaty blood, and it's still good fun.

>Purist retards who think that if you use 1 extra gun or a couple of monsters or do anything at all outside outside bog standard vanilla doom everything, then it's not doom and they make endless passive aggressive whiney comments about "oh yeah, you can play that way.....it's just wrong....but that's cool"

This is what bothers me the most. It's a mod. I don't expect a mod to play exactly like doom, if I wanted to play something that plays exactly like doom, I'd play vanilla. That's fine if you don't like it, but don't tell me I'm having my fun wrong and that playing it isn't right.

The main reason I see them as a cancer on the community is they're totally blind to the clear and present fact that the reason doom is even still played as much as it is is because of modders and mappers.
Their whiney bullshit stifles creativity and them trying something different just once wont hurt, though they take fond pride in their stupid acts and try to imply that any attempt to change something will spell doom for the community.
