honestly no. just boring slogs overhyped because souls happened. you also need a playstation mouse

No. Autists pretend they're good just because they have robots

i remembered renting and liking the first game. maybe the second as well, not sure if i played it or not. i remember liking using the sword. been a very long time since i played them however.

Anyone have that chart of the order and recommendations for the series?
we all know why we are in this thread. Hopefully From really delivers on 6. They’ve definitely got the budget and manpower now to pull off something big.

Armored Core somehow manages to make mech gameplay more boring than Front Mission's.

Me and my friends would play Project Phantasm and Master of Arena back when they were new. We'd use my gameshark to buy anything we wanted and make ridiculous builds.

Armored core 2woth the arena. That is the best mech experience I've ever had

Yes, they still hold up. Play from the first game onwards. Don't be a fucking baby because the company later made Souls like some of the anons in this thread. I'd participate in the general on /m/ because this board attracts fags.

>>9477507
That’s subjective. Back in the day they were the best mech games next to mechwarrior. They always had limitations and problems and don’t hold up super well today, but you can definitely still have fun with them IF you like mech games.
>>9477518
Armored Core has always had a sizable fan base. Everyone who owned a PS1 played an armored core demo at some point and if you owned a ps1 back in the day you know this is true. People actual bought these games.
It’s the people praising horrible boring slogs like King’s Field and Eternal Ring that sold like shit for good reason that are truly autistic bandwagoners. Those games were NEVER good. Armored Core at least offered something sizable for mech game fans and had a major cool factor.

>> No.9477936

>>9477489
I’ve only played the first one so far but I liked it. The PS2 games look really cool too. I’m real excited to see how the new game turns out, but I feel like I should play another game or two in the series before it comes out.

>> No.9477960

what's that thing where the truly autistic armored core players play with their control pads backwards?

Yeah, all the mainlines. Just play a few though, don't go overboard with "play them all" autism

>> No.9478006

>>9477926
They DEFINITELY hold up today, considering the setting there's nothing really "dating" them as old games and they're highly customisable. Even the controls which filter people can be fully changed to adhere to your play style.

>> No.9478008

>>9477960
It's a meme, no one actually plays like that. All the "autistic" AC players literally have the controls mapped to their needs, whether it's default or not.

I loved master of arena as a kid and played it all the time, replayed it recently and found it underwhelming and kinda boring. Nostalgia feels to the max though. It wasn’t like going back and playing MegaMan X4 or something.
I had fun with it, just not a lot. It was nice to revisit.

I played MoA this year and it gave me a solid three months of gameplay, great experience, there was just so much to do especially on the second disc, and the opponent AC maker gives it even more replay value.

All the sequels follow the model established in the first game and play almost exactly like it, if you played the first to the end and didn't like it, work out whether or not you think the sequels are for you.

Honestly just play 3 and the ones after that, 1 and 2 just aren't that good. They're cool to play for a bit if you're a fan but I've never even completed them.

>> No.9478819

>>9478802
You’re welcome. It’s indeed extremely gay now, slightly less so if you’re a weeb that imports games.
The exploit I use is called tonyhax, although I did admittedly need more than just a PS1 and my PC to get it done since I needed a way to move some files from my PC to a PS1 memory card. I threw the files on a thumb drive and used a softmodded PS2 to do that part.
Totally worth it if you prefer using the console over emulation like I do. Most of the games tonyhax exploits are thankfully still pretty cheap.

>> No.9479183

The games are quite rough and have some completely braindead game design decisions that were never improved upon in sequels. The games are also extremely hostile to newcomers so you'll need a guide to know what the fuck is going on.

>> No.9480076

3 and Silent Line are the best but the original PSX three games have tons of charm to them and are worth playing if you like mech building. You can actually play all of those 5 games on a PSP. But Last Raven is made to be unfun so don't bother.

I played a bit of my friend’s copy of 3 when it came out, but I recently bought it to give it an earnest try and beat it. I’ve not been bothered by the controls.
I know I like the game, I just want to actually finish it and enjoy the whole ride enough to warrant buying more. I hate the bulk buying and hoarding attitude the current retro market creates.

ps2 AC2 is dirt cheap. PS1 games in general tend to be overpriced.

>> No.9484670

I'm an ultra-fan of Armored Core, from BEFORE the American AC1 release. I'll admit, it's satisfying seeing new players struggle with the games, since they're the only ones I'm really skilled at.

I skipped the Nexus trilogy because, after 7 games with minimal changes, I had enough (until Miyazaki's AC4 came out). According to >>9477620 I should have stayed faithful. So now, I'm replaying AC3+Silent Line to get ready for the Nexus games.
