You basically have to get lucky enough for the game to decide to not have the AI 3v1 you for 3 games in a row, it's insane. The only exception I've found is a couple of the levels in the final warp room, like Swamp Fox or Dante's Dash, feels like they ran out of time because the AI's pretty easy on those.
