There really is no way of skipping enemy turns of which there can be literally up to 50. I read some people do their dishes or tax rerurns in that time

WHY DO TENDIES NEVER TELL YOU ABOUT THIS KINDA STUFF? I was looking forward to trying this series for years

pretty much everybody plays those on emulators and just use fastforward when the enemy phases get way too long, otherwise it's unbearable and you just do something else while it happens. also turn off battle animations to speed up the game, if not already done.
>up to 50
play the SNES games (all 3, in release order), they have less enemies

jfc please tell me you are giving the wrong advice on purpose as a joke. FE3 and 4 are right there with tellius with having way too fucking long enemy phases.

This. I love Fire Emblem 4 but the thought of playing it on original hardware sounds awful. The big maps were a cool idea but they take forever to traverse, and I hate how the best strategy is to kill everyone in the current section but the castle guard, move everyone but one character as close to the next castle as possible, then take the current castle and use the warp ring to get your other character back with the group.

4 enemy turns don't take long at all compared to Tellius shit, unless you count story cutscenes

The only one worth playing together with Awakening

I never really liked any of the game because after the initial couple of comfy maps it turns into a tactics puzzle game where you're supposed to do things in a very precise and narrow way.

I always preferred TO or FM or UFO or any other "tactics" game where the emphasis is on reacting fluidly to a developing situation on the "battlefield" rather than doing things a very specific "directed" way.

I played the two on GBA, twice each by now, and enjoyed them a lot. I have absolutely no recollection of being bothered by waiting for the enemy turns to play out. There are some maps with lots of units, but often those units don't "activate" until your units get close to them, so they get skipped. And I sure as hell want to see every movement the enemy makes within range of my units. Sorry anon, can't relate.

Everything you typed doesn’t sound like someone having fun playing a video game. You are being forced to do something extremely tedious because the game is designed badly, and yet you still like them? That doesn’t make any sense.

I recommend playing FE6 on GBA as well. There's decent translated ROMs online. It's less refined and a bit unfair but more challenging, in a good way

>> No.9477886

>>9477773
That's interesting, do you have any examples of chapters that made you feel that way? Off the top of my head I don't really see it, aside from some side objectives that just push you to pick up the pace if you want the rewards.

I think you're missing the point of these games. Are you the kind of player that would skip looking at the opponents moves in chess as well?

If you're too impatient maybe try out playing advance wars. It has an upcoming switch remake.

Sort of a mixed bag, there. My biggest issue with the series is that it holds up this "death is permanent, character dynamics vary from run to run" but then pulls so much stuff out of its ass ("oh no! Enemy wyverns just spawned within range of the healer you were hiding in back! Too bad!") that realistically I'm going to call bullshit and reload the level for half the character deaths anyway.
I want to do a whole series run at some point, but I'll remember what you said, thanks.

Wouldn't 50 units moving take at most like a minute and a half?

>> No.9479962

>>9478763
Some people can make 10k in 1 minute and they do it multiple times so it adds up

Games are about interactivity and usually there is nothing you miss out on when not watching their animations, which is why most people do something else in the meantime. Makes FE feel like Age of Empires for disabled children who can't think for themselves what the enemy might do

Only very mentally retarded people would argue against optional skipping or fast forwarding, same with the training in Monster Rancher for example.

Yeah the unfair refence was pretty much about some of those player-phase spawns. I really really like the exp system though. Characters you had a great run in on playthrough turn out terrible in the next, I think it really adds to the replay-abilty. In FE7 and FE8, the good characters seem much more consistently good.

The replayability aspect does sound nice. I agree that 7/8 doesn't give you a lot in terms of options. To be fair, that's part of why I try to play with permanent death, because then I'm forced to use unusual compositions. You also get to see some different support conversations that way, which helps add some novelty.
I just wish the game design was more cohesive.

i've only played first american FE on gba, and i swear 50 units going would be under 50 seconds. im also pretty sure 50 units on screen at once is a fuckload and doesnt happen. i know enemies keep showing up, but 50 on screen at once?
but again this was 20 years ago, i could be remembering wrong. this was a time where pokemon taking 20 seconds to initiate a battle screen wasnt annoying

It's the only way. But yeah FE6's stat growths, or the way it calculates them and hit rates and stuff make the game much more variable. You can end up with good axe users and shitty fliers and front-line worthy mages. In FE7/8, the strong units are pretty consistently strong.
>I just wish the game design was more cohesive
The maps are better though IMO. Some of the requirements to get bonus items are very strict and make you really plan ahead

That's kinda what I thought. I'm also someone who probably wouldn't mind those twenty seconds to get into a Pokemon battle even today though, to be honest. My brain just isn't wired the same way as people who absolutely need to be able to speed things up in games. If a game bores me I just won't play it.
