I don't even like SH2. It starts like shit and completely butchered it's set-up. The fog is ugly, the first thing you explore is the most boring apartment block, your first monster encounter feels completely anticlimactic and random, then random Pyramid Head having retardedly animated dry sex

SH1's set-up is the most amazing horror set-up ever and immediately being allowed to explore a whole town felt incredible

The industry was smaller in the late 90s, initially all a game needed to be given a "Greatest Hits" was 150,000 copies sold after a year, though it was later raised 250,000 copies. Silent Hill sold about two million copies, it was a big seller for 1999/2000 standards.
