It's such a shame there isn't some big dungeon crawler series based around exploring crazy cool looking environments and gettingyour ass kicked by crazy mobs.

I love these kinds of games. They are, along with shmups, the last bastion of truly oldschool design philosophy. There's just a purity to the whole experience that modern RPGs can't even approach. It's like the difference between a ready made can of food warmed up in a microwave versus going out into the woods, hunting for meat, foraging for herbs and mushrooms, then building your own fire to cook it. It's way more grueling and uncomfortable to do, but it just feels so much more fucking real.

If you haven't, I recommend trying the original Monster Hunter. They lessened that aspect bit by bit with each new game, but especially in the first one you literally do all that. If you want a steak to keep your stamina up, you have to go kill a dinosaur, cut a hunk of meat off it then cook it for the right amount of time so it's not undercooked or burnt. It's also got a unique and wonderful control scheme that they totally ditched after that. Beautiful game.

It sure is. I wish the character designs were a little less moe, but other than that they're great. Monster designs are generally cool, dungeon layouts and aesthetics are awesome, the bullshit it throws at you compares to your available skills is a great balance (after EO2) and the music is out of this world.

That's expedient because that means you don't need to draw up/pre-render lots of stills or segments of stills to then assemble, and the lighting can be altered as you go (again, without having to redo all the assets, or for instance doing a whole bunch of animation frames). It makes it easier to put the scenery together in general.
There's a certain kind of charm in those old games where a lot of that stuff was just plain painted up as a whole, it's a craft and I love seeing that shit, but I'm not gonna shit on anyone who doesn't want to go through all of that, especially when a straightforward modern approach just automatically solves a number of things for you like that, saving lots and LOTS of time. There's a reason people were doing pre-rendered 3D even in the early 90s.

As long as it isn't asset flips or AI generated shit/upscale bullshit (re-releases/remakes/remasters), or randomly generated levels for a first person shooter, I really am not that upset.

>>9468938
I'm maybe not blown the fuck away by that one screenshot, but it certainly doesn't look bad at all, everything is drawn and colored well, perspective and lighting is all well done. The environment looks slightly flat and boxy, but that's just the nature of this particular flavor of game, it's how they're put together.

>>9469213
Yep, it certainly is very nice to look at, there's nothing here which isn't at the very least quite competent, a lot looking particularly good. The way shading and coloring is done in a few character portraits looks like they're done in a bit of a different style (different artist?), so there's maybe a slight clash there, but none of the portraits look bad at all.
I've never played the Ishtar games, and I'll be honest and say that I'm really not in awe, but at the same time to say that this is mediocre or even ugly is just incorrect, this is pretty fucking good.

You need a 3DTV or a 3D vision compatible monitor with the nvidia 3D pyramid emitter and the nvidia glasses. For 3DTV's you can use Xpand 104x glasses which you can program to any IR protocol.

Many DirectX9 games, most DirectX11 games are fully playable in stereoscopic 3D if you have the right 3D hardware. New universal fixes for both Unity and Unreal Engine 4 games are coming out all the time.

See Helix Mod for more details.

Are you sure? Because I always use dosbox and they work fine; but if you want another option you can play the Amiga version, they're the same game with slightly better sound quality.
