There's no region lock on Game Gear, but games actually detect console's region and switch languages if possible. There are some bizarre English localizations hidden in Japanese games.

What a huge downgrade in Sonic R. I actually think Sonic Drift 2 is fun for an 8-bit 'into the screen' racer. They are not Super Mario Kart on the SNES tier. I haven't really played the first one. They look similar for the most part. Sonic Drift games look like they were GameGear games first then ported to the SMS. They look like they use the same engine as Super Monaco:

Otherwise, I'm disappointed my copy of Puyo Puyo doesn't have this one, must be another version. It's completely unplayable. In the version I have they didn't compromise on the screen size and everything is SO GODDAMN TINY, christ

Played them in Sonic Adv. DX and they're simply, but fun enough. On Sega's defense, there was NO GB/GBC Mario Kart either
