1, 2, and 3&K are on Mobius
CD is on Little Planet, attached to Mobius
Adventure 1 and 2 are on Earth
Anything else is on the ambiguous "Sonic's World" but don't all share continuity and setting with each other

Pretty sure theres a kid in Sonic Adventure that directly mentions events from Sonic 3
Not to mention Amy's opening cutscene in Sonic adventure references Sonic CD
Plus, the entire area encompassing Ice Cap Zone and Red Mountain is supposed to be Angel Island from Sonic 3.

You know what's really funny? At the end of the day, all international versions of Sonic are completely identical in-game (not counting bug fixes). It's literally the same game, no matter which region you're from. If you gave these games to people without context, they would all get the exact same experience. All the arguing and complaining simply does not matter, because they are the same game.
